Because it's needless cruelty, and it wouldn't be efficient at killing him. His family didn't do anything wrong, but any men he told may have to be shot, they know too much.

I was suggesting his family so they wont have to see their father/mother/child/sibling being tortured, but we can use a mind erasing device too, and plus, he needs to pay for his sins so... Yeah
