Actually, the state with the largest number of people living below the poverty line is California. California also has the largest state debt and the most cities to have declared bankruptcy. They are rated 49th for financial stability.

The other state that is in bad financial difficulty is Illinois. It has the lowest S&P rating of all states. Illinois debt is rated junk. I believe both are blue states. BTW, Connecticut is also in financial trouble, they were downrated by S&P as well, another blue state.

In fact, the bottom five states are all blue.
California, Mass., Maryland, Connecticut, and Penn. Though Pennsylvania could be considered purple.

Of course California has the largest number of poor - it has the largest number of people: 39,77600+, over 12% of the US's.
It's been a magnet for poor since 1849, and various States buy a one way bus ticket to Cali for their homeless and send them there.

It's one of the States that pays more in Federal taxes than if gets back in funding, and a driver of not just the US economy, but the world's - having the 6th largest on the planet.

Your 'bottom five' are some of the richest States, and net losers in Fed tax revenue.

The poorest States are Red, and their moribund economies are dependent on primarily Blue States to stay afloat.
Chicago is Blue, the rest of the State is Red.

Are you using data from the same site? This is why I think you have to be careful about "research." You can get it say anything. There is no research without bias.

The tables showing budget insolvency concern me most. I haven't read the whole doc yet, but I downloaded it.

Note the source of this data.

Simple maps. A couple of these are 4 or 5 years old.
Note the source of data. These aren't skewed 'reports'

The S&P rated the US AA+, so according to that report, it is below Iowa, Missouri and yes, Wyoming (amongst others) with it's booming half million population. Guess when we go down another notch we all have somewhere to flee to.
1 up, 6y
No, didn't even look at it. No time for partisan agenda based biased slants.

You don't seriously think California and Connecticut are worse off than Alabama or Arkansas?

California is the only State with an A- credit rating, not exactly the free fall he makes it out to be. The rest are higher.
Given its much larger expenses, it happens. It doesn't have the luxury of being a pauper State whose costs are paid for by others.

This one is from 2013, so Illinois was A- then also.

You are correct in that California has 13% of the US population. However, they have over 33% of all poor people in the US. That is almost double the percent of the next state. This number is also growing at an amazing rate due to illegal aliens and the rise in the cost of living.

Read what I said, 1849 on...
California is the terminus of the these United States and the land of dreams, mostly unfullfilled.

What excrementitious State do you live in again? Does its GDP come even remotely close to California's tourism industry alone?

The state that I live in is irrelevant and is nothing but deflection

The point is that California is becoming a s*ithole because of ultra-liberal governance. In the last USA News Survey, California has been ranked the worst state for the overall quality of life.

Believe me, I am not jealous of California. It is one of the few states I will not even visit.

Secondly, how am I lazy by providing corroborating evidence to my statements. If anything, it takes some effort to do the research. Maybe you should follow the links I post and educate yourself on how incorrect your statement is.

Who knows, you may change your mind #Walkaway

I do not believe you, your jealousy speaks for yourself.
You're so jealous, you won't even give name of the insignificant dung heap you squirm in.

I still don't do links, and you haven't refutted anything I said, just pointed out S&P's 'devastating' A- rating of it, and how it attracts more poor than your trailer parks do even with rental vouchers.

Walkaway? You have no place to go but yet another state whose main employer outside of gov't is Walmart.

Sad.

Where I live is still irrelevant.

There is nothing about Calif. for me to be jealous of. It is an authoritarian leftist state which is diametrically opposed to many of my values.

You still have made no sensible argument to support your position nor have you countered any of my arguments.

Your opposition to reading data that is outside your echo chamber life, just proves that you do not want to have discussions. You just want yell and scream and have the world to accept your mob views. No matter how misinformed or incorrect they may be. This is an indication of an indoctrinated leftist who is afraid that information may prove them wrong. Without the views given to them by their elitist handlers, they would have no identity at all.

I feel sorry for you. You are limiting yourself to only what you are told to believe and have lost the joy of learning things for yourself.

This discussion is over. It is no longer worth my time. You do not want to discuss, you want to preach and show the world how relevant you think you are.

Trigger warning indeed. Need a hanky?

You haven't stated a single thing to counter what I posted (didn't read your cute list, but I know because you can't), darling, so save your meltdown for the next Twilight chapter.

How about you post a list of your illustrious State and the impact of its moribund economy and backwards culture on anything other than lowering the base IQ of the USA?

Don't forget California's budget surplus.

Your jealousy pleases me.

Not really triggered, just don't like incomplete information being spread. You stated that red states are poor. That is misleading. While the GDP or per capita of those states is not as high as Calif. or NY, the states themselves are generally in a much better financial state then Blue states. If you go to the eastern part of California or the northern part of NY, you will see just how poor the rest of these states are. Silicon Valley and Wall Street drives the GDP, but they are the exceptions.

As far as Californias budget surplus, for the last 12 years, they have declared a budget surplus when passing the budget. However, in almost every one of those 12 years, "unexpected circumstances" have resulted in a deficit. In 2016 they had a budget shortfall of $112 billion. That is why their credit rating is one of the lowest in the country. Calif has over $1 trillion in

As I was saying, California has over $1 trillion in debt including unfunded pensions. This doesn't count billions in unfunded infrastructure maintenance.

Caifornia is also suffering from middle-class flight. It is one of a few states where more middle-class people are leaving than moving in, NY is another. In fact, the fastest growing populations of middle-class are all red states.

This is getting repititious. Of course those States are more credit worthy, they are covered by richer Blue States who in tern have to cover themselves at a loss.

Think like Donald Trump and his father. 'Self made' billionaire with $413,000,000 to stuff his vest and a bag full of tax evading and subsidizing utilizing tricks.

You didn't copy your whole c/p at the end there. But your cherry picked fluff is unduly bloated.
0 ups, 6y
How do Blue States make Red States more creditworthy? They are more creditworthy because they do not run up enormous debt and are more fiscally responsible.

Your argument makes no sense and is not supported by fact. You haven't presented any facts that address your claim. Yet, I have given you data and facts to address my claim that your meme is misleading.

16. California is the only state where having unprotected sex without telling their partner about HIV-positive status is no longer a felony.
17. California is the only state to tax drinking water.
18. California has 8 of the 10 most polluted cities in the country.
