seriously?? wtf does that even mean you "know someone irl..." ?

people use imgflip for different reasons. some people create new stuff, some people like f**king around with image editing, some people share/repost stuff from other sites and some people use it like a social media site and chat/share with their online friends.

so wtf is your problem with that exactly? is it because no-one's playing to your rules?

That's rich you say? So you think my time would be better spent trying to earn worthless points from people who upviote reposts and memes about how well their memes are doing?

I spend my time finding people who are truly gifted at creating new ideas. So I can take those ideas and create income out of them. In all my years of doing that I have never witnessed a person with a real talent for creating something care about something they already created. To them the only creation that matters is the one they are working on presently. Anybody wasting their opportunity to create something by focusing on things that have already be created. Obviously couldn't come up with an idea good enough to inspire them to create something new.

Hey, I'm just here to have a few laughs, OK?
2 ups, 6y
I can understand that. It's not easy to find a few laughs here which is probably why you weren't too busy laughing to stick your nose in this conversation.

I get it. Me going on a rant about the lack of quality control around here is the most interesting thing you could find at that time to comment on.

I may be an asshole and I may only be amusing to the people that aren't part of the whole upvote each other club. You might hate me but you are still too interested in what I have to say to stop reading this. How could you not be interested in an outside opinion when your hobby is upvoting reposts and memes about points and memes about how well the memes about points did.

I realize you must get some enjoyment out of talking to people on here. How great would it be though if you could still talk to those people and have new interestingly funny original memes to look at while doing it.

It's possible, all you have to do is not look at the name on the meme when you decide whether you like it or not. If somebody stops being your buddy when you don't upvote a shitpost they made. Then your friendship was only worth as much as points on a meme site anyway.

If you want the points you get to have any value at all. You can only give them to things that are worthy of them. If you don't use them the way they were meant to be used. You change them into something meaningless.

And with that I bid you good day sir.

What else should I call it? There is a huge seperation between reality and make believe on this site. Just because you are pretending to be in the world series, doesn't change the fact that you are playing stickball in the parking lot behind a Denny's.

Sure your buddies all say you hit a home run and add the points to your scorecard. Even if you only hit a groundball that kept rolling into the street, because the parking lot is uneven and your buddy is too fat to bend down and stop a grounder.

Everybody needs a fantasy life, we all wish for something greater. IRL the guy playing stickball knows he isn't playing in the major leagues. I could just say I know somebody that plays in the majors and he would understand the differnce between the two worlds.

When I look at the front pages of this site I see a bunch of stickballers that think they are in the major leagues. That their scorecard means the have the ability to punch above their weight successfully.

IRL I know somebody that makes a living writing little witty things. Which is the major leagues of whatever the hell is going on here. You have a major league player sitting in the damn parking and you're so caught up in your illusion you don't even notice him. Who needs to get better at the game? You know all you have to do is hit a grounder to left field then add up your points, while they try and fish your homerun out of the gutter.

"Everybody needs a fantasy life" This says more about you than you realise. Honestly, i've never read so much puerile, pseudo-intellectual bullshit in my life

when "you" look at the front pages of imgflip, you judge people by "your" standards; I've checked your memes, they're nothing to write home about...as i mentioned previously, people come here for a variety of reasons, if you must judge, judge them by "their" reasons for being here...not yours

So who is the "star player" you have in imgflip then? I'll have a look at his work and give you/him some honest feedback
3 ups, 6y,
2 replies
Yes indeed! I judge people by my standards. Those standards being something people pay me to judge their work with. Standards that enable me to pick the right creation for whatever that particular audience is seeking.

If you worked your ass off to create something you believe is worth something. I'm the person capable of telling you not only what it is worth but which audience is likely to appreciate it the most.

I realize things like how you chose to use the ise spelling of that very word. Generally speaking that is a sign that you are or have been a resident of England and not North America. So if you were the audience I was attempting to please. I wouldn't pick something created by somebody that doesn't understand brittish humor.

Of course it's possible you don't know how the word is spelled and figured it was all good since spell check didn't underline it. Under which circumstances I doubt what I choose would matter. SInce it isn't hard to find something that can entertain a person unable to entertain the notion of the importance of proper spelling.

Good day to you sir!

couldn't care less if people want to waste their time pretending to create something worth looking at. It's my job to find creative people and publish their creations. I happen to be friends with somebody that likes this site, whom I know is capable of creations that people will pay for the luxury of enjoying.

He likes to play around on sites like this. Says it helps his mind get in a creative state. So I made an account to check it out. To watch as he creates some stupid meme, then am lucky enough to be the first one he shares what it evolved into with. I spend so much time proof reading and fine tuning his creations that he's influenced the way I use words. Made me more capable of expressing myself in a way that intelligent people respect and listen to.

I don't put down what you are doing out of spite or malice. It's just frustrating to see so much time being wasted. When you are on the same site as somebody that creates creativity as easily as you create shit when you eat. The only way to create something great is to surround yourself with the materials your creation needs. If you joined this site wanting to prove you are capable of making something people will enjoy. You'll never accomplish that without seeking out others who are trying to do the same.

Rewarding a persons creation because they are your friend is doing more harm to them than good. They will never improve if you make them believe they don't need to. Without honest feedback on what people like, you can't hope to create something they will enjoy.

The point is that the points should be a tool that helps people become better at what they are creating. If you are upvoting memes you know aren't very good because your buddy made them. You're making it harder for them to make anything better. I treat my friends better than that.

The only thing you could find to criticize about what I wrote is that I didn't capitalize a word and hit the t an extra time? I wasn't trying to shame anybody, simply stating a fact that a person unable to spell wouldn't care about the nuances between british and american humor. Oh no I didn't capitalize stuff again, good thing this isn't one of the many written works I get paid for every week lol.
2 ups, 6y
That wasn't the only thing, there was plenty more. If you get paid for writing, it's a wonder you don't starve. You are one of those people who are unable to spell, so at least you know your subject well. You also don't know how to start and end sentences correctly. Haven't you ever heard that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?
2 ups, 6y,

I also wouldn't minimize that error. If I can find ANY mistake in your writing (and you're supposedly a writer!), then you have no business criticizing others for spelling or grammar mistakes.

I don't make memes or know much about them. I just happen to be friends with somebody irl with an amazing ability to create things. I don't know who this guy is or give a shit about his points. All I know is I haven't seen a good meme out of him yet. You can either put effort into creating something worth while. Or choose the easier path and put effort into kissing enough ass to get people to put a shine on the turd you shitposted.

The fact of the matter is. If what you create is nothing more than the illusion that you are creating something good. All you're really doing is talking to people with pictures. Forcing everybody to sift through your garbage in search of anything that resembles a form of actual creativity.
5 ups, 6y,

I make a living with words. I'm a publisher and facilitator of bringing creators together with those who enjoy what they create. Clever writers can make a lot of money online if they can find somebody wanting something written. I happen to know how to navigate that maze is all.

I'll leave the creative stuff to others.

I happen to love to read. What sort of publishing do you do? Check out “norsegreen”. Her memes are funny and she is an author. She, like many of us, enjoy the site for other reasons. Maybe we aren’t all the worlds most witty, talented, clever or #1 photo shop app users. But for the most part we have a lot of fun. And it does help relieve stress. We enjoy going back and forth being stupid. It’s just what we do. For free because we like it. Also, check out “Phantasmemegoric”. You really won’t find anyone much more creative or witty than him.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying a site like this for other reasons. It is possible to do so without forcing memes by people just messing around to the front page while ignoring memes by anybody who isn't part of your cliche'.

I can get anything published that is worth a damn. It's my job point the creative minds in a direction that is profitable for both of us. It's best to let somebody with a mind like that focus only on creating things. I take care of the boring stuff happily just to be a part of something like that.

My associate that is on this site has a mind I can't begin to comprehend. I'll tell him I need so many on a certain subject yada yada. Next thing I know he's playing around with memes and pictures doing all kinds of shit that has nothing to do with the subject I asked him to work on. Somehow while one part of his mind is busy posting stuff he is able to find the perfect way to write exactly what I need. It used to drive me crazy watching him waste his time on a site that ignores him for the most part. Until I realized that he creates things through creation. For him the act of creating something creates the ability within himself to create something more.

When you have witnessed something like that. You truly understand creation. All we do is create things. We create thoughts and emotions, we create pain and pleasure, we create life and death and all things in between. Creation however can not create itself, it has to start somewhere.

Yeah well... when you've been up 24 hours on a dopemine rush trying to meet a deadline that consists of coming up with new idea after new idea. With somebody sitting next to you who also has his synapses sparking off like a live wire spouting off money making narratives like a machine.

Then two hours before the finsish line you hit a wall and realize all the work you have done may not be purchased unless the contract is completed. Then witnessing your associate log on to some meme web site and start playing around like he has all the time in the world. So you log in yourself because your mind is a raging inferno by this point and you have to direct it at something.

Sure part of it was the drugs, but witnessing the way dude was flowing was like watching Micaelangelo paint a ceiling in one night.

We created enough material in one night to pay for christmas, for both of our families. Imgflip paled slightly in comparrison to that at the time. I only focused on it for a few moments and all that shit poured out of me. Just a tiny glimpse of the amount of information and wordplay that went on in my office yesterday.

I've managed to sleep a bit since then. Mostly over it.

I know I know I fly off the handle at times. It doesn't come from a negative place though guy. I discovered my most profitable client on a site like this one. I am always looking for somebody that has fresh ideas we can both profit off of.

The only thing I know about this site is that somebody who's mind I respect greatly enjoys it here. Which raised my expectations for the quality of the content on it.

I was frustrated to realize the point system here in no way represents the talent of the user. Meaning that if I want to figure out who has potential to make money for new ideas. I have to sort through the good, bad, and the no longer active.

I'm not creative and I don't enjoy making things like this. I work with writers and am capable of word play, only I'm better at polishing anothers contribution than bringing forth my own.

The only creative talent I posses is being able to take another persons creation and present it in a way that improves upon it. The only reason I can even write this at the moment is due to a chemical manipulation of the creative part of my brain.

Judging things and pushing people to reach their full potential is my only claim to fame. It bothers me to see people celebrate something like they earned it when it's obvious they didn't put any real effort into it.

An easy win goes in the plus collum same as a harder one. Only the ones you have to struggle to achieve are worth remembering.
