I'm happy you spoke up, I agree that sometimes it gets overwhelming to me too . I have my core beliefs and they don't always align with other's. Having faith does not ALWAYS mean you have to go to a big building, sit still and listen to someone speak, then sing when told. For many though it does help them to learn more about how to be who they want to be. Like anything else, it can be overdone... much to my sadness to have learned I can overdo toffee.... but I digress.
Anyway though, to address your original point, if you hopped on the home-teams bus to go to the big game, you're going to have to listen to their cheerleaders. To expect otherwise is to set yourself up for disappointment.
Why seek to change those that already have a process in place and their way to contribute? Why not begin your own organization?
I remember as a kid a lot of the small things my grandmothers' churches did for them. The steady stream of their friends from there helping when my grandfather died, bringing food, making sure she was able to get here and there for years afterwards.
