Shot dead kids. 'well there is nothing we can do, these things happen, you can't stop crazy people'

Black man goes down on knee and advertises Nike, 'treason! he should be killed! This must be stopped! It's an outrage!"

Now imagine a reality TV star was president...crazy right? (Upvote!)

There's nothing controversial about school shootings; they're condemned by the vast majority of people. In fact, most things are more controversial than school shootings. School shootings are one of the least controversial subjects in society. This meme making the front page just demonstrates the lack of intelligence most ImgFlip users have. Or is that opinion too controversial for you?

Thank you for saying this!

What's controversial is the response to the response.

The vast majority of people have called for some degree of responsible gun control and regulation to help prevent future school shootings.
This has been met by an NRA backed backlash, something amply seen on this site. Kids from those schools have been ridiculed, slandered and turned into villains by those who see their quest for protection as a threat to supposedly more precious Second Amendment rights.

Meanwhile, the very same pro-gun rights contingent is all riled up about this Nike ad thing as if that's the worst thing to have occurred since production of Hostess Twinkies (temporarily) ceased.

That an ad contract is more controversial than what has been rendered into just another school shooting is the point of the meme.
Sadly there's nothing intelligence or the lack of can do to change that chunk of idiotic prioritizing.

Vagabound is right. In meme shorthand, the point is that a sneaker ad has caused more consternation among a group of Americans who want to take action over the national anthem but not school shootings.
2 ups, 6y
Thanks.
It's eyebrow raising what rankles some people more. Life means less than a sneaker to them.

Ok well spoken! But who is to blame? The media is to blame! The media chooses what stories to prioritize and unfortunately most people get their news and I hate to say it “prioritized information” from them.

Now are you a gun owner? Do you know your localities gun laws? I happen to be a gun enthusiast (I know big surprise) and I am well versed in my local gun laws. What exactly do you or anyone else recommend as “responsible gun control”? Longer waiting periods? Stricter background checks? Raise the age limit to purchase? If you check around some you’ll see that most states have had these laws already enacted for years now. Where I live it is extremely hard to purchase a gun. I hate to say this as well and if I’m not mistaken all but one of the school shootings in recent years were committed with weapons that didn’t belong to the shooter (I apologize if I am incorrect). So none of these “gun control” measures would have helped. Longer wait periods = less spontaneous but yet longer planned out event. Stricter background checks = may help in a few instances but when weapons are stolen or bought illegally doesn’t help. Raise the age limit = again may help in few instances but there is still the stolen or illegal purchase issue.

Then we reach the outlawing of certain gun types, that’s not a bad idea and I agree that there are some weapons that shouldn’t be out for public use, but again we run into the illegal gun issue. Did you know in many states it is much easier to track down and buy illegal guns
2 ups, 6y
The media sells what sells. And what sells is what the market wants to buy.
Add to that direct input from the public via the web, plus what said public does on its own on social media.
Then there's corporations and lobbies buying influence, shills, bots, and you have what we see here on a daily basis. Ever wonder why even some of the illiterates on this site who couldn't find Mexico on the map if it was outlined in dayglo are posting the same exact memes as others before this stuff hits the news the next day? Sure, heard on other sources, don't meed the 6:30pm news, but the SAME meme subject? ALL? Only ONE politically newsworthy topic per week? Where's the "Who's the traitor in the Cabinet?" memes? Forgot, it isn't Monday yet.

True what you said about "If it bleeds, it leads" but that's because we're all a bunch of depraved vampires. Carnage is entertainment, and we live in a reality show come true world.

These are all meant as distractions, people squabbling over shiny celebs whose only concern about us drones duking it out in defense of their exhalted names is how much money they can suck from us. Tax cut for the rich? I'mmo be rich non day. NRA in pain? Well here's my tax-dectable contribution to your billion dollar gauze. Football star profiting off his golly-gee-look-at me gallant mission? Sure, let me buy a pair in support or to burn, it's still just profit to them.

As for guns, laws are one thing, enforcement and circumventing them is another.
We've seen how it can work in NYC when a multi prong effort is put into it (stringent regs, social iniciatives designed to alter the culture of violence, police integration into the neighborhoods they patrol making them something other than the enemy come to bust us. Is that feasible or desired in other areas? Naah, collateral damage is preferred. We were born out of a tradition of brutality, need to preserve that.

One really simple solution for schools that they've used that works is metal detectors. No guns, no knives, no paper clips. But that would be to easy for the 'two' warring factions, we need more blood spilled first.
1 up, 6y
This is why there is no hope in America and America will continue to see dead kids at its schools, unlike all other developed countries.

The price of easy access to guns is dead kids and for many Americans that is something they are willing to accept for the 2nd. I feel for those parents who kids will not come home one day, because everything else is to blame except the guns. (as we see in the first sentence, it's the media! If they didn't report 10 kids getting shot dead at school it wouldn't be a problem!)

Than to get a drivers license?

Then comes the mental health check. Ok good idea! Problem is most people without a prior history or record of any kind will probably pass a mental background check. Then there is the issue as to who will administer said check? Who will pay for it? Me personally I would pay for a mental health check in order to get my permits but I’m more than likely in the minority. Most police Dept. In the country don’t require mental evaluations so it would be demanded of everyday law abiding citizens? There’s a lot of ground to cover and I believe some things can change hopefully sooner than later.

2 ups, 6y,

You’re kidding right?? “If it bleeds, it leads”!!! if there isn’t a controversial or scandalous story to air, they twist one around till it suits. Where do you think most people get their daily info from?
2 ups, 6y,
1 reply
Does that mean you think the media does it because they are inherently violent? They make $$ off what type articles we click on. If they don't make $, they go out of business and the "bleeds it leads" media outlets that get all the views or clicks or whatever remain.. capitalistic darwinism and such. Should we blame imgflip for f'd up memes making it to front page?
1 up, 6y,
1 reply
Violent? Not necessarily. I wasn’t thinking in online terms more in network terms but both suffer from the same ills. You can’t compare this site to the media, here the users control what makes it and what doesn’t. In the msm the people behind the talking heads control what they want you to see, and you’re right it’s all about money. To the point of the op there really isn’t a controversial story to push right now so this Nike bit will be rehashed to death until something new breaks. If god forbid there was a shooting that happened recently, we wouldn’t be having this conversation and this Nike “controversy” story would be little more than a days worth of news.
3 ups, 6y
I guess I view the media as being at least somewhat controlled by us.. The msm ads pay the msm companies based on how many viewers they get.. and we are the (potential) viewers.
no viewers= no $.
no views and upvotes = no points.. and no front page :P
1 up, 6y
Exactly! There is so much wrong with that New Mexico incident that I don’t think there are enough pages here on imgflip to unpack it. Great pic lol

Like Mike4000said.. Just look at this website... This is the only meme mentioning the shooting so far with enough views and upvotes to make it to the front page... Meanwhile there has been what.. at least 6 ? mentioning either Nike or Kaepernick. The clicks decide. Memes are like news headlines with a picture

Politics and religion are controversial subjects because people hold different opinions opening them up to debate. Murder is not a controversial subject as it is overwhelming deplored by society. The right to bear arms is a controversial subject. The definition of controversy is not controversial.

Millenials are poor because they're paying massive student loans. Not to mention over half still live with mommy.

Watch and see. Nike isn’t going under, and I can’t wait to see your butthurt response to that. :)

Until then feel free to burn your Nikes and troll. It’s about the only thing you can do about it
2 ups, 6y
I never said they'd go under. I just said they lost alot of money. Then you wanted to argue that they didn't lose alot of money.
So I had to manipulate you into backing yourself into a corner.
Then in a last attempt to virtue signal you call me butthurt and a troll.
It's not my fault your going to jail.

You call me out for saying you’re butthurt, but then you still continue your stereotyping crap. Rich XD

Oh and maybe you should read some of what you write. You never said once that they were “only losing money” until now. I was only stating and supporting with my words that they were not going under. And I stand by that. Your trolling sucks by the way

I didnt really specify anything.
I just let your liberal imagination take flight. Made my half hour waiting at the dentist fly by.
And no you said what I posted was untruth. It wasnt. They lost 3 billion.

I’m not a liberal, dumbass. I’m a realist. I don’t personally wear Nike to be honest. Too flashy and New Balance are more comfortable in my opinion. It’s just logical that they won’t go under. Even if they do lose a bit of money now they’re more than likely making up for it as we speak.
