My fave was when one of the most popular memers here posted a mere "lol" and got 4 upvotes. My meme comment and another got 1 upvote, and the OP's meme got 2.

Yeah, see that a lot.

Either

A) there's alt users

Which is highest probability

B) popular users will always be guaranteed an upvote, no matter how modest or humble they act.

Which is false modesty if they really believe "it's not the user it's the message"

Or

C) it's both. Isaysay was the last most known popular user/alt user

I think it's a lot of A with a side of B. Because that's ridiculous.

I'm really curious about C. I don't remember isayisay commenting with a "LOL" very often. I think that was pretty rare. Can you come up with a link where his LOL is the top comment on a creation?

From what I remember about isayisay's commenting style, he mostly made meme comments, about 150 of them day in and day out for about 6 months. Most of them seemed pretty relevant to the OP's creation, very few text comments and not loads of upvote image replies like some users do.

I've heard the accusations that isay used alts, I guess I would have to ask how many points you or I would have when we reached 27,000 +/- comments.

If you look, he has at least 6 votes on his comments. At least one is from me as I always upvote a comment on my memes.

But I mean, 5 other upvotes just asking what F5 meant seems odd. Speculation isn't something I ever like doing, though. However, there was someone accusing him flat out and I'm not sure his response but he shortly quit after that.

The shoe mostly fits, and if he ever comes back and denies it, then I'll change my opinion and apologize for believing that he was an alt user.

At this moment though, I would bet he was an alt user.

I think the best way to tell is check the recent tab and make note of users getting suspiciously early upvotes every time their meme is featured. Other than that, I don't see a reason to waste time finding out alt users. You just know that they do exist though.

But yes, coincidence should not be a basis of proof, as usual.

I do know gamefaqs suspended my account for a three days because I had a few infractions. So I went to create another account to keep posting on a thread and gamefaqs said my account shares the same IP as another user and therefore cannot post until 72 hours has been up. Maybe IMGFLIP could do that to discourage alt users.

Forgot to say I agree with A and B. For sure there are users with alts, some appear to be trying to generate front pagers with upvotes and comments from their alt accounts. I don't understand and never understood how that would or could be fun.

I know some popular users, yeah I will usually upvote their stuff cause they're awesome memers with funny stuff that makes me laugh. Some are in top 50, some are on the way there. Some of those popular users are truly interested in occasionally helping others by answering questions and such. I tend to follow them and read what they have to say.

I think being active and running with a crowd of other users that are active at the time helps with the comment upvotes and brings traffic to ones memes. I think that was a big part of isayisay's success. I never saw anything that indicated isay used alts, nobody has been able to prove it to me or produce anything that was remotely conclusive to me. Of course it's up to every user to form their own conclusions.

Not sure who was on your meme, but imgflip.com/user/isayisay is not deleted. He went inactive just before Christmas 2017.

I welcome any changes the mods might make regarding alts, I think they might have already made some.

Isayisay’s account is not deleted, at least on my memes.....speaking of Alt. Accounts, I had one only for the purpose of upvoting my and others memes so that trolls didn’t downvote them back into “Submitted” way back when. Personally, I’m too lazy to use and alt, plus I don’t see the point either. I don’t want to be popular...lol...

I feel like I'm in a good spot with imgflip these days, visiting, commenting and submitting when I feel like instead of trying to come up with three submissions a day like when I first started. I've always come here for the laughs and when I stopped thinking too much about how my stuff did or if it even got featured, my enjoyment of the site went up. I let go of thinking about getting my stuff on the front page, it's nice when it happens, but it's not really why I'm here.

RE: downvote to submitted. Someone told me a long time ago two downvotes and no upvotes would take a creation back to submitted.

The MOD acuity12 recently said here: imgflip.com/gif/2g8n88 "Images with low upvotes no longer get automatically disapproved."

The way I interpret that is memes no longer get downvoted to submitted when they first start out. I haven't heard about someone loosing a creation to downvotes for a while, how about you?

Back to isayisay, he tried to defend his creations from getting downvoted to submitted late last year by sending links to several users before submitting. When his stuff was featuring with multiple upvotes, the accusations of alt accounts started to fly. I think getting accused of that sucked the fun out of this place for him.

Just one last suggestion on alt users is that they would... Or should only upvote their own memes if it starts of with 3+ upvotes. Then the number of alt accounts upvoting it afterwards gets mixed in the "trending" votes.

I've been on this site for 4+ years, and don't always have an idea to post a meme or have the ambition to comment every meme in the top 3 pages of hot memes.

So it's easy to visualize a way to see how an alt user can influence their memes to the top page.

Especially when you don't get much upvotes from just followers as opposed to upvotes from a front page meme.

Some users believe their upvote means something and will only use it (meme upvote and comment upvote) when they hit the front page (maybe 2nd). And in order to get to the 2nd or 3rd front page memes is about 15 upvotes, roughly.

So at a low upvote level, creating 5 alt accounts is enough to manipulate your meme to the front 3 pages.

But if you need 100 upvotes to make the top 3 front page memes, then an alt account user wouldn't mean much if their meme doesn't gain traction.

I haven’t had any memes that were downvotes back to submitted since that Downvote Troll problem 2 years ago or so....I liked IsayIsay, he was a pretty funny guy, and I’m sure being accused sucked the fun out of ImgFlip for him....our loss I guess......I’m like you now, I come here daily make some comments, submit something if I feel like it, you know, just having a good time with users that I’ve known for a while...actually August 26th was my 3 year anniversary here on ImgFlip....can’t believe I’ve been here that long....if only my marriages were as fun and lasted this long..ha ha ha!
