Um, yeah. It's OK when white people have a revolution and tea party, but kneeling is bad?

Protesting racism is fine, but they're doing a bad job at it.

Instead, they're disrespecting their country that is built upon principles that allow them to make millions of dollars playing a game. Rather than kneel during the anthem they could all hold hands before the start of a game or some other thing to show their feelings of protest.

Disrespecting their country to protest racism is foolish and should not be defended by anyone. There are better ways of going about it.

If they're doing a bad job of it, then why are they sparking some kind of reaction, hence this image?

Instead of garnering sympathy for the issue they are supposedly trying to raise awareness of, the meme is instead evoking sympathy for the military. Most discussions have nothing to do with black lives matter. They are either about patriotism or the first amendment.

That's called failure.

MAYBE THE 360,222 UNION SOLDIERS WHO DIED IN THE WAR TO END SLAVERY AND THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MEN WHO LOST LIMBS SHOULD HAVE TAKEN A KNEE TO PROTEST SLAVERY. NAH!

Uh, how do I say this. Maybe all of the thousands of people who died or got their arms and legs shot off to end injustice against people of a different race should have just taken a knee if that's how you make a change. How about these guys drop the thug life and look and go to Chicago on weekend nights and protest the carnage happening to our brothers and sisters there every weekend? Nah! that might change something, kneeling is a real cool looking pose, especially when we lock arms with each other. If they don't rein in the misguided rage as they have a high profile job, the rage will lead to carnage. It isn't the cops (black cops shoot black civilians more than white cops) it's the criminal activity that has taken over urban life. Protest illegal drug use, protest gangs, protest dropping out of school, protest blacks shooting blacks, protest what is wrong instead of what is political. A lot of people died to give us the freedom to change for the better. We owe the symbols of their sacrifice some respect, and we have to continue to make this a more perfect union. it will always be a work in progress. Not every white human being is a racist, get used to it. Nuff said.

...exercising their right to free speech for an issue they feel is worth protesting for?

Why can't they all stand with their right hands over their hearts and their left fists in the air? That wouldn't be disrespectful and it would still get the message across. Why make the statement during the anthem to begin with? It's extremely disrespectful and nobody should be defending their actions.

The point is they're doing a terrible job at protesting. If they want the country behind them then they shouldn't alienate themselves from the country.

"why can't they protest the way I want them to!" "They Shouldn't use their freedom of speech by using their freedom of speech! It's unamerican!"

You've clearly missed the point.

They can protest racism, that's fine. Kneeling during the anthem has nothing to do with racism, it's just disrespectful. They are going about their protest the wrong way.

They don't care about the issue, they just want the attention. If they wanted American support then they should be demonstrating in a way that doesn't piss people off.

Also, that's not how quotes work. That's called putting words into someone's mouth. By doing so you completely missed my point and instead turned the issue into what the media has been training you to turn it into.

My argument has nothing to do with freedom of speech, it has to do with protesting intelligently and not alienating the people whom they are trying to gain support with by unintentionally disrespecting them.

No, I got your point. My point still stands. They decided to protest in a way that got attention. It's their right. The point of a protest is to make people talk and that's whats going on. A war vet gave the protesters the idea to kneel by the way, as a way of saying "I love my country but it has wounds that need healing". You're free to disagree with them. But we are still talking about it, which is the point.

The point you made earlier has nothing to do with anything. Middle schoolers running around screaming obscenities use the same argument.

The point you made about it grabbing attention just now is fair. However, it's done more harm than good for their cause. Rather than cause controversy and divide the country, they should get people to rally together around something everyone can agree with. At least that's what they should do if they genuinely cared.

They don't need to be disrespectful towards their country to get their point across. It doesn't matter who gave them the idea, most of the country takes offense to their actions. Gaining support is not done by upsetting the target audience. They really should try a different tactic if they are serious about the issue they claim to be acting on behalf of. It just makes them look bad and causes division during a moment that is supposed to be reserved for unifying patriotism.

They could be doing a lot of good but instead they are angering and weakening our country.

If you actually listened to a black person on this issue, you would know that you look incredibly foolish right now.

It’s very possible that not every colored football player kneels when they play the national anthem, I think that if they’re going to protest than they should at least stand up. If 360,222 people died so everyone could fur fill their lives in the “land of the free” during the Cival War yet are being disrespected by the very people they were trying to help, that’s not a very smart thing to do. I know it’s not my place to say what’s right and what’s wrong, but the way people are going about with their protesting is just plain rude and wrong.

Soldiers dying to restore truth & end the lie of slavery died to correct their crime at that time. Is it reparations for cops to fight criminals & end their crimes? nope. Ya pay to stop a crime & for the damage done. Neither of these though are the same thing as the critical judgment fantasy of the moment because ya don't like free speech. We can rationalize all sorts of things. Maybe Rosa Parks should have stood in the corner of the bus as a sign of submission? Whatever the peaceful protestor does is ususally contested. That's the point of passive resistance to create a conflict in the minds of those doing wrong when they're failing to think about it by other methods. The DESIRE or WANT for things to be sacred like religion, flags, or anthems stems from your personal emo inner child's desire to go unquestioned on what he claims is truth and that's not responsible to truth. Personally as a veteran I fought for free speech which means taking a knee, flag diapers, urine crucifixes and more.. but I disagree with the sensationalist idea that the cops are out of control killing black ppl. Ya don't get to resist arrest or bum rush the cops with your hands up saying don't shoot. I will shoot you myself for that, if I've come to gun point & your charge me.
