Here's a freeway of 1970s cars. You say you can name 9 out of 10 of them? Okay and . . . go! :)

I see a white Plymouth Satellite behind that Buick Skylark convertible in the middle lane.

I thought that was a White Fury in front of a Oldsmobile Cutlass

Nice Fury. But that thing was a little bit smaller, and the grille is narrower between the headlights. Also take note of the size of the grille on that green GM A-body and you can see it's the Buick.

You misunderstood me. You said a Satellite. I thought the SATELLITE was a Fury like the one in the pic I posted
reply
4 ups
No, I didn't misunderstand you. The car in jdatesta's 70's freeway pic contains a Satellite. Your pic of the '69 Fury is still nice, though.

FYI, I also noticed a '68 Chevy Chevelle in front of the Jaguar. Did you?

I didn't notice that, even though it's the first car. That's odd because it's one of the coolest cars ever! And for what it's worth, my fave muscle car is the '72 Mustang. Ford's answer to the '69 Camaro

There's a Saab convertible behind that Freightliner tractor-trailer, and a couple of Nissan Titans heading towards the viewers (us). I also see a Cadillac De Ville from the 1990's or later going in the opposite direction.

So very true. I love the styling of the older cars. Unfortunately environmental regulations on the fleets of cars for each manufacturer that mandated fleet MGP standards, forced cars to be designe for wind tunels and since the physics apply evenly across all manufacturers, the results are always identical. Very sad from a style and design viewpoint.

You're referring to aerodynamic design, right? I think the first car I was ever aware of with that was the Mazda RX7 back in '81

I can recognize more cars for the 50-80s than I can new cars, mostly cause I don't care about new cars
reply

I dont care about new cars, either. The only car I'm somewhat impressed with is the Subaru Outback because --even though I've never driven one-- it just looks like it would handle SO WELL on and off the road, in and out of snow! Like a tough Jeep Wrangler, I guess

People back then didn't know just the make and model but often could pick out the model year as well - oh look, a '68 tbird, etc. Beyond my skillset.

I agree. There were some ugly cars in the 70s, but you could soup them up relatively easy and make them look sweet! lol
