The problem with him resting in peace, is if he didn't truly believe in God and give himself to God before he died, he won't be resting in peace. Sad, but it's reality.

Matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed, which would mean they have always existed. They change states, but as far as I know, they never didn't exist.

"The difference is most people know God IS real, but don't want to accept it because they don't want to acknowledge a part of themselves. Sin and the fact that God is holy and we are not. Know what I mean?"

I'm afraid I don't understand. If I believed in God, I wouldn't deny he exists just because I don't want to answer to him. If a child doesn't want to obey their parents, do they stop believing their parents exist? Of course not. They still believe their parents exist, they just don't obey them. It's the same way with God. If I don't want to do what he says, I just wouldn't do what he says. I wouldn't stop believing he is real.
0 ups
It's not that you would believe He's not real, but try to make yourself think He's not real. Very different with parents. They're not perfect, they don't make us weak in comparison to the extent God does when we try to compare ourselves to Him.
Also, matter can't be infinite scientifically. If it is scientifically possible for matter to have existed since forever, the same is scientifically possible with God.
God is above science, (He created everything) so I don't have to prove it in that way but if what you're saying is the fact, what makes my belief unsound scientifically?
And yes I like the word "scientifically". :)

Assuming John was about the same age as Jesus, he would have been in his 90s to 100s when he wrote that gospel, based on the estimated date of its authorship. While not impossible, I find that to be extremely unlikely.
0 ups
What is the estimated date of authorship? Is it just an estimate?
Extremely unlikely? Just like the theory where the universe randomely proofed into existence by chance.

The theory of evolution has nothing at all to do with the Big Bang. They are two totally different fields of study. That's like saying American historians are trying to throw out the assassination of Julius Caesar.

Well, the big bang theory is the start of the theory of evolution. That would be like an American historian trying to throw out the existence of G. Washington.

"It's not that you would believe He's not real, but try to make yourself think He's not real."

I don't understand. How could I make myself think God isn't real if I knew he was real?

"Also, matter can't be infinite scientifically."

Why do you say that?

"If it is scientifically possible for matter to have existed since forever, the same is scientifically possible with God."

Except that if god exists, he's outside of nature and therefore science can't demonstrate he's real, since science only deals with natural phenomena and natural occurrences.

Saying that god exists tells us nothing, because if god can't be demonstrated scientifically, how do we even know he's there or what he does?
0 ups
Matter can't be infinite in the first place because it can't be created. (According to the laws) I'm not trying to prove God's existence scientifically, but I'm saying if matter and energy break the rules of science, which is not natural, then why can't God be over said laws.
And we know He's there and what He does because of the Book He wrote and gave to us. ;)
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
The estimated authorship of John is about 90-110CE.

The Big Bang theory is a different subject altogether. And it's not randomly poofing into existence, either.
0 ups
Where did the matter and energy that supposedly made the big bang happen come from in the first place if not proofing into existence?
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
Whether or not I want god to be real is entirely irrelevant. What matters is what does the evidence lead me to conclude? I don't believe that something doesn't exist just because I don't want it to. I wish child abuse didn't exist, but it does. I don't tell myself that it doesn't happen just because I wish it didn't. I accept that it happens, and do what I can to help stop it from happening.

Is there anything you have convinced yourself doesn't exist, just because you don't want it to exist?

Why do you assume I haven't read the Bible?

I see no evidence that the gospels were written by eyewitnesses to the life of Jesus. They were written anonymously, decades after he died, so we have no way of knowing what the authors actually saw.
0 ups
You see, people just don't want to believe God is real. Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.
John 3:19-20 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world (Jesus is the Light of the world John 8:12) and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
0 ups
The Book of John was written by guess who? John. Who knew Jesus. Lots of the New Testament Books (Paul's writings) were written by people who knew the disciples of Jesus. I know you are aware that Jesus is a real person, even if you don't believe He's God. Ultimately you have to believe that anyone is real.

George Washington is tied directly to American history. The theory of evolution is not tied to cosmology to the point where biologists would study the Big Bang or physicists would study genetic mutations.
reply

But believing that God wrote the Bible while then using the Bible to show that he exists is still circular reasoning. It's like saying I believe Harry Potter really exists and wrote the Harry Potter books, then using the Harry Potter books to show that Harry Potter exists.

As far as entropy, I don't know what caused the Big Bang. Perhaps it has something to do with dark matter or dark energy. But we do know that the universe is expanding, which means it was smaller in the past, likely small enough to be a singularity.
0 ups
But I thought evolutionists had irrefutable evidence for bio evolution and the big bang.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
Evolutionary biologists do have enormous amounts of evidence for the theory of evolution, and cosmologists do have enormous amounts of evidence for the Big Bang theory.

And we know He's there and what He does because of the Book He wrote and gave to us. ;)

Matter exists now. If it cannot be created or destroyed, then that would mean it is eternal. I don't know for a fact that that is the case, but if it's true, then matter (or at least energy) has always existed.

As far as using the Bible to prove God exists, it's a terribly circular argument. You're trying to prove he exists, but in order to do so, you have to use a book which you *assume* from the very beginning was written by him. It's begging the question. You can't assume to be true the very thing you're trying to prove is true.
0 ups
Not assume to be true. Believe to be true. And even if the matter could be created and therefore eternal on its own, that doesn't explain how the big bang could have happened in the first place. Due to entropy, matter and energy would have worn down over infinity to be completely unusable. Certainly not fuel for an anti explosion.

Atheism is a lack of belief in a god or gods. That's it. It's not a worldview. It's not a religion. It's pertains to one issue and one issue only: whether or not a god exists. I am a Christian and I cannot prove that Hell exists. It's just a belief that I have. But when it comes to proving that God exists I have run across something that might be classified as evidence of the creation account in Genesis. In Genesis God created the universe by literally "speaking" things into existence. Speech is simply vibrations that you and I create. So one could say that God used his vibrations(speech) to create the Universe. Quantum Physics teaches that everything in the universe vibrates, even down to the atomic level. So if, hypothetically, the Genesis account is true, and God used his own vibrations to create the universe, it would then explain why everything in the universe vibrates. ...Just a theory i have.

Of course there is an issue that I don't ever see addressed during these kinds of conversations either on imgflip or in RL and that is the fact that the Bible teaches that folks who Believe in the Bible and call themselves Christians, should understand that it is their responsibility to reach the lost with the Gospel(Mark16:15KJV).

And if it is the responsibility for a Christian to reach the lost with the Gospel, then why go around and tell people they're going to Hell? At least, in the way that you see most folks do it where they talk down and disrespect unbelievers. Acting like a total douchebag is not going to encourage people to take one's views seriously, but rather drive them away from your beliefs, whether you believe in God, Atheism or the Giant Flying Spegetti Monster.

Being Christlike is something to aspire to but humans are innately flawed. There are a lot of fake Christians out there spouting gospel then breaking the commandments left and right. Loving your neighbor, loving your enemy as yourself, forgiving, treating others as you want to be treated... it's not easy to do. That's why Jesus died for all our sins and asked God when he was on the cross to forgive them for crucifying him.

Octavia if you're interested I have an experiment for you to conduct that might help you get some your unanswered questions, answered.

Back in 2007 I was where you're at now. I was really wanting to find proof that God exists, if what the Bible says is true, etc. And I had a simple theory: If it's true then it CAN be proven...it's just a matter of finding out how. I conducted an experiment based on clues I found in the book of John(KJV) and during the week of July 21st 2007, the experiment was so successful that I converted to Christianity from Wicca and my life has never been the same.

Here's the experiment:
1. Get a copy of a KJV Bible
2. Spend 30 minutes a day(minimum) reading that book and just go from John to Revelation
3. Every day, before you start reading, pray to the God of the Bible and challenge Him directly to prove Himself to be real and the Bible to be true.

This experiment is based on the following theories:
Jesus clearly states that if you seek Him that you will find Him. And what I outlined above is how the Bible teaches to seek Him.
In order to find God you have to learn more about who and what He is so you know what/who to look for. This is where the Bible reading helps.
The Bible claims that it is a living book. This experiment will demonstrate to you how true that is.
If God really is so powerful that He created the universe in just six days, then there is no reason why that SAME God cannot interact with you in person.

If I were to claim that love doesn't exist and I were to ask someone who is in love for proof, that person would respond with the words, “You have to experience love for yourself to know that it exists.”

I am telling you that if you want to know if God exists, you have to experience God for yourself to know that God exists. You have no idea how bad God wants to reveal himeslf to you and how much God loves you. This can be the way to give God a chance to prove himself to you.

If you want proof, this is how you find it. I hope this helps. :)

When you get ahold of God, or more accurately, when God gets ahold of you it will be so obvious that you'll know it. I encourage you to remain as skeptical as you can while doing the experiment that way when things play out, you'll not have to worry about falling victim to the power of suggestion.

Ha Ha Ha You're getting so hot over there! We've gone over this again and again. Religion, as defined by the dictionary, that tome you previously refused to accept, is a system of beliefs. You have chosen atheism and lying to yourself. Have fun coming up with proof for all of that. Once you have that, that's when you can come to me demanding proof. Of course, you already know I'm going to hand you the Bible. However, anyone who has to deny evidence provided by the dictionary in order to believe themselves correct is more than likely going to not want to believe the Bible no matter how well verified it is. Also, why would I attempt to dissect your relationship with others? Arguing against such an obvious prop in someone's position would be even less evidentiary than your bring it up in the first place.

You don't understand logic very well, do you? Religion involves a set of beliefs, among other things. Atheism means not accepting the claim that a god exists. It is not a set of beliefs. It is a position on one issue and one issue only: the existence of a god. If I say leprechauns exist and you don't accept my claim, can I say you have a religion based on rejecting leprechauns? Of course not. Your argument makes absolutely no sense and you obviously don't even understand what words mean.

Also, you claim Hell exists yet refuse to provide any evidence. I have no choice but to assume you have none. I have given you multiple opportunities to back up your claim, yet you won't. Therefore your claim must be unsupportable.

Either provide some evidence that Hell is real, or I'll just conclude that there is none.

So, I've been sitting back watching the show for a while. It's kind of like watching the prophets of Baal flagellate themselves. But, as yet, the atheistic god of supposed correctness has not respond at all. God provided answer's long ago. However, the local atheists, those same people who would have to know everything in order to prove their extraordinary claims a non-existence, appear to have smelled blood in the watter and have circled in for the kill or, at least a rant jamboree. Being right here in the center of it all, that works just fine for me. The evidence of God has always been here and openly available. Thought the message aspect drives it home that much deeper, feel free to replace the object of this example with anything other object that requires another object for it's creation. Such would be everything in the universe unless, perhaps, your religion asserts that something can come from nothing.

I am quite happy to say I do not have all the answers and neither does science but look how far we have come in 200 years, we've doubled life expectancy, lead healtly lives, discovered the big bang, discovered evolution and quantum theory. What has god or religion given us in the last 2000 years? Not very much at all. It neither improved the life expectancy of humanity or improved our lives or taught us anything we haven't had to find out ourselves.

The list of scientific facts in your picture are not scientific facts at all, it is only to mislead the gullible and the desperate.

Personal choice is what it always comes down to but, personal choice does not alter the pre-existing facts.
