Actually, you've got it a little backwards. Sure, the conservatives like a little conformity, especially when it comes to benefitting society overall, but they're against "Big Government" having control of everything. In other words, "do what you want in the privacy of your own home, but exercise morality out in public, and leave big brother out of all of it".
This is as opposed to liberals who are getting dangerously close to '1984', thinkpol levels of totalitarianism. Getting people fired just for having a different opinion in matters not related to their job, or because they said one or two things they didn't like in a memo that otherwise wholeheartedly supports their narrative. Not to mention getting people thrown in jail because they refuse to have their speech regulated.
