So they were practicing the "ignore him and maybe he'll go away" method of politics.

Either that or perhaps the, "lets not bring a box of matches into a hay barn" method. By meeting with him they would legitimize his power and him as a leader. The US only met with Gaddafi when he had his hands full with people trying to strip him of power. And they only met with him to tell him the only future would be for him to step down.

He's the dictator of a country that has nukes. I don't think he much cares if the US "legitimizes" him.

I suck at analogies, so bear that in mind, but it's kind of like the US not wanting to meet with a mafia godfather, claiming it would make /him/ look legitimate. The godfather doesn't much care what the US thinks, he doesn't give a rat's ass about the US's idea of legitimacy, he just goes on about his business of exerting power over the little people, governing his kingdom, and the US can't seem to do anything to stop him except harrumph and use stern words about how bad he is.

Plus Putin likes him as a pet, so they're fine being poor without anyone else helping!

And starve his country with sanctions.

It's not as much about legitimizing him as a valid leader to the rest of the world or to the US. It's more about legitimizing his leadership to the people of North Korea. The people of North Korea need the rest of the world to stand with them, not the dictator that is oppressing them.
0 ups, 7y
The people of North Korea are kept in the dark about the rest of the world, not to mention cannabis is legal there, clearly to help keep them docile. Even if they weren't, they still wouldn't give a rat's ass about world leaders that don't do anything but send nasty letters to Kim Jong Un because they "don't want to legitimize him". They'd more likely be more supportive of world leaders who actively stood up to him and tried to actually help them.

No he wasn't. That's silly. But DJT is a commie lovin wannabe dictator that MAY be Putin's gay lover. Time will tell on that one.

Ha, are you serious? The Russians are not communist anymore. That's why the left hates them. The left is ALL ABOUT endorsing communism, to the point that they even carry around the old hammer and sickle and idolize Che Guevara, a known communist homophobe who co-founded the regime in Cuba, put many gays in jail and executed them, among others he executed.

Putin is moving Russia towards the USSR days. To not see that is willful ignorance.

http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2014/mar/06/john-bolton/did-vladimir-putin-call-breakup-ussr-greatest-geop/

Even Bolton knows what's going on. Expect more firings after hirings. Bolton is a bit out there but not stupid. Trump will tire of his logic and intelligence. Trump thinks he's hiring a yes man with Bolton. Not really true.

He may be moving Russia back to communism, and yes it has sure seemed that way to me. Trump is just a halfwit who doesn't seem to have gotten that memo. (I never particularly supported Trump, but he was the lesser of two evils in the election).

But that just makes the left's support of communism more alarming, considering the tactics Putin has been using.

If anything the Left supports the victims of Communism (at this point basically the Cuban citizens) while the Right seems to love China (many of Trump's family businesses manufacture there as well as MANY other conservative moguls) as well as NK (Trump will talk with him whereas Obama and all the presidents prior wouldn't validate the Kim regime with meetings) and now Russia is Trump's best friend. Why? Why won't he EVER say a negative word against them? They must have some good dirt on him. Hence Trump's need to shut down the investigation led by a REPUBLICAN.

Facts have no bias.

I just got through saying how the left sports pictures of Che Guevara, idolizing him, and he's the one who helped MAKE all those Cuban citizens victims.

As for the right loving China, and here I thought Hollywood was decidedly left wing?

And about "validating" Kim's regime, I've already had that discussion above on this page, Kim doesn't give a rat's ass about the so-called "validation" or "legitimization" by other world leaders. He's the dictator of a country with nukes. Perhaps if Obama had taken steps to deal with the situation like Trump is doing, instead of ignoring Kim and hoping he goes away, things might have been better for NK citizens by now.

Nope. And Trump (if he even does) meeting with him will do nothing either.

I think you see more "liberals" sporting commie logos and personas b/c the libs are more about revolting against the system while Conservatives like conformity. Many young libs don't know the history behind their t shirts and think it's cool to support the underdog...while it's not a far
stretch to call young or old swastika wearing neo-nazis "conservatives"..... They are fine people after all.

Actually, you've got it a little backwards. Sure, the conservatives like a little conformity, especially when it comes to benefitting society overall, but they're against "Big Government" having control of everything. In other words, "do what you want in the privacy of your own home, but exercise morality out in public, and leave big brother out of all of it".

This is as opposed to liberals who are getting dangerously close to '1984', thinkpol levels of totalitarianism. Getting people fired just for having a different opinion in matters not related to their job, or because they said one or two things they didn't like in a memo that otherwise wholeheartedly supports their narrative. Not to mention getting people thrown in jail because they refuse to have their speech regulated.
0 ups, 7y
Matter of opinion. If what you said was true, we'd have legal prostitution and drugs everywhere since they are "victimless" crimes no more harmful than alcohol etc.. If the Right really wanted to support "family values" they would revert to Eisenhower era Tax rates and they would support unions which offered good wages and less need for social programs.
0 ups, 7y
Forgot to say: Mind you, I'll grant that the conservative idea of "morality" needs a little work, but no more or less than the liberal idea.
