Tons of downvotes probably on both the meme and the comments. That’s why my comment has 3 upvotes but below another comment that has 0 upvotes... I don’t downvote anything but there’s lots of flippers who downvote memes or comments just because they don’t agree.

Yes the intention of the feature by imgflip may be to simply rate the meme, but downvoting has punishing effects. And there are trolls that use downvoting to attack other users. So let’s get rid of downvoting and use flags or other mechanisms to take inappropriate content off imgflip.

I think it’s a bit different situation with politics where it is 50-50 split versus a meme that is overwhelmingly disliked because it is offensive to almost everyone. I have no problem with these one-sided political memes, but these memes shouldn’t just disappear because two users downvoted it along party lines.
