This what the outlaw guns people don't understand, even when you just outright outlaw guns, there is still a couple in the gun owner's house, there's still a couple in a mobsters truck, there's still a million in America.
I grew up with someone who is in prison right now for the fourth time. He was in the county jail too many times to count. He is scheduled to be out again in 2020.
People who live the lifestyle of a criminal do not care about following any laws. They will continue to do the same things they have always done regardless of how many more laws are passed.
The only people who will be hindered by even more or "stricter" gun laws are the people who already follow the laws that are on the books.
I grew up in a neighborhood where you could end up shot by just walking down the street.
The guy who robbed me and the one's shooting each other are the "problem" not the guns themselves.
"Gun control" is the problem too! Not that are more laws and restrictions needed, the laws already on the books and the "checks and safeguards" already in place need to be enforced.
Did you know that someone close to the Florida school shooter called an FBI tip line and reported the guy as a possible danger months ago? Is the mainstream media even reporting that? BUT the FBI didn't follow up.
The sheriff's office had been called to the guys house almost 40 times, some of those were domestic violence calls. Out of 40 I'm sure some took place after he became an adult (17 or older) but he was never charged with "domestic violence." If a person is charged with domestic violence in my state they lose their right to legally own firearms.
The only people I have heard say "why make anything illegal" or "so we should just get rid of all laws" are leftists who don't understand that the laws already in place are fine they just need to be enforced properly.
You can call what I say "ranting of an insane person" but can you answer what law needed to be in place to stop the Parkland shooting?
Banning semi-automatic rifles?
The Virginia Tech shooter used handguns.
If you are not talking about full blown gun confiscation and bans, then what is your solution to get guns out of the hands of evil people who want to hurt others?
Come on, we're waiting to hear wisdom from a balanced, intelligent, reasonable liberal instead of the "rantings of an insane person."
Come on, a criminal is not a personality type who doesn't follow any law. Plus you're not a criminal since the crib. You could be a law abiding citizen and buy legal guns then go mad and shoot at people...
I have known criminally minded people of all different personality types and the one thing these people had in common was their disdain for the law.
They do not care what the law says or forbids if it is something that they want to do. The same goes for those who use guns for crime. They won't give up their guns and it won't be impossible for them to get their hands on whatever type of guns they want.
Passing more legislation will only infringe upon the rights of law abiding citizens.
Listen to what you said: "You could be a law abiding citizen and buy legal guns then go mad and shoot at people..."
So the only way to prevent that potentiality would be to stop all gun sales and confiscate the 200+ million guns that are legally owned right now. Good luck.
Well you can have a fulll disdain for the law and yet fear spending time in prison or even being fined. Most people abide by the law because of fear, not because they are good people...
Well listen to what you said: "So the only way to prevent that potentiality would be to stop all gun sales and confiscate the 200+ million guns that are legally owned right now. Good luck."
So you're saying there are too many guns in the streets to do anything about it? That we've gone so far in no-gun-control that gun control is impossible?
You're right, for me, weapons should be made illegal. It will take a president with balls to do it.
You are either ignoring or don't know about the small minority of people who don't fear going to prison therefore new laws will not stop them from committing crime. They violate the laws that already exist and will violate any new laws that are legislated.
Before you say, "Well, why have any laws then..." laws are for those of us who abide them and as means to be able to arrest those who don't. New laws are not "more opportunities to arrest criminals" they are infringements on the rights of law abiding citizens.
Enforcing the laws that are already in place and using the safeguards in place is what is needed.
Did you know that a person close the Parkland, FL shooter called an FBI tip line and reported that the guy had guns and was talking about shooting people and the FBI did *nothing*? They didn't forward it to the field office or even report the guy to the Sheriff's Office.
Did you know that the Sheriff's Office had been called to the guys house almost 40 times? What about him being under mental health evaluation but the mental health "professionals" let him out of their system?
Something bad happens, so, take away everyone's rights? Again, good luck with that.
"a president with balls"
Well, gun regulations are not for gun BUYERS but for gun SELLERS, who, hopefully, do abide by the law... The point is to make it harder for people willing to buy guns.
Of course the black market exists, and will always exist. But don't tell me it's the same as going to the gun shop. And the less guns available on the "white" market, the less available on the black one.
