Made it back to Hatteras last week for another spring break. Andrew Jr. has taken up skimboarding, I think one would be a nice Birthday present. How are the waves on the left coast?
- The waves were ok-ish in December and January... But overall it's been a rather poor Winter - and now spring. Spots with a better look towards the NorthWest (like Nor/Central Cal, Oxnard and San Diego probably did better than LA, where I was mostly stuck. I managed a few brief journeys - Rincon and to the S. Bay once each... But I wasn't as mobile and "on-it" as I'd have liked to have been, or have been in the past.
The shot above is from the last day that I rode - @ $hitpipe - in front of LA's Hyperion treatment plant. The pipe makes a uniquely shaped reef - extending out to sea, like a sidewalk. I bought a new boogie-board (knowing that the tide was going to be on the low side of safe-riding, even at it's peak, this day) and had fun for a little over an hour.
Currently we're awaiting the Southern Hemisphere's 'wake-up'. When it comes - I anticipate some fun days at Pt. Dume, since we've had plenty of rain and wind to build the sandbars.
Check the Youtube channels of BEEFSTV and SkidKids. The best skimboarder in the world ATM is Blair Conklin... He is just-about amazing. Whatever skim designs he rides, seem to be the ones to goto. He surf too, and rides hybrids and boogies as well. It is amazing watching his technique.
