Captain Picard Facepalm Meme | THATS JUST STUPID | image tagged in memes, captain picard facepalm | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Even if you disagree with whats going on today, there were thousands upon thousands that were drafted in the past. Everyone forgets the days when people were sitting around hoping they didnt get the knock on the door and a folded flag.

This is nothing against the military because my dad was in the Air Force and so was my father in law...But I don't know anyone who joined the military because they wanted to protect anyone's free speech. I do know a bunch who joined for the benefits like $1 down VA loan and free college, etc, though... And I have yet to see any wars in the last two hundred years that were fought over free speech. If anything, the military has been repeatedly used to oppress free speech in this country. And Kathy Griffin has just found out how little free speech she is actually allowed....

Free Speech doesn't mean free of consequences. Kathy Griffin was free to say what she wanted. She wasn't arrested, she isn't in jail. Other people are free to say what she did is terrible. Other people are free to base their economic decisions (whether to have her event at their venue) on what she said. Her free speech doesn't prevent others from exercising theirs.

As far as protecting free speech, while people may not join with that as uppermost in their mind, the role of the military is to support and defend the Constitution. How the civilian leadership uses the military is a usually more a reflection of the values and goals of the civilian leadership than the military.

If any "war" was fought in support of our rights, my thought would be the Cold War or WWII. Both were against regimes that were antithetical to our way of life and our values. A loss to the other side in either would have led to drastic curtailment in rights and liberties in USA.

--------

I have watched Kathy Griffin's comedy over the years and enjoyed most of it (mainly the parts poking fun at celebrities). Personally, I feel that her holding the press conference and playing the "victim" card was the worse thing to do. If she had clammed up for a while, I think it would have all blown over, given time. The press conference was doubling down on stupid.

I agree about the press conference in HD. That was wrong I'm so many ways...

Well that's not free speech then. I mean it's not like anyone thought for a second she was serious. Everyone knows she's a comedienne. It's that she offended people. And probably because she's a woman. Thats probably been the most feminist statement I've seen in a long time. Women showing power over men, and in this case the most powerful mN in the country, it's not cool. Not acceptable behavior... Snoop dog can shoot the president and little bow wow can tweet about pimping out Melania. That's all perfectly fine. But this really offended some people apparently and from the looks of, the secret service scared the shit out of her. Sorry, that's not free speech.

I disagree. She said what she wanted. She was not censored by the government. The First Amendment is about restrictions government places on speech, etc. As for Snoop Dog, there were people who were offended. What probably made his less offensive was the "clown" aspect of Trump standin.

As for the woman aspect, my personal belief is that if cannot be criticized because you are a woman (or you perceive that all criticism is because you are a woman), you really aren't interested in equality. You want special rights.

I don't know Kathy Griffin. But if she was a man, I believe I would have had the same reaction. And the Secret Service would have had the same reaction. They don't know her either. Their job is to protect the President, regardless of who he is, and to assess threats to determine if they are serious or not.

Kathy Griffin MAY have intended this as a joke. But once she released it to the world, the viewer determines what it is. Kathy Griffin may not have considered that others would not find it funny, not think it was joke, and be offended. That comes from living in a bubble.

But she still was able to say what she wanted to. That's free speech.

Kathy Griffin isn't a member of Isis. Nobody thinks she's planning anything. She's being censored now, hence that little visit by the secret service. I didn't say she can't be criticized. People should be allowed to disagree and express those feelings without getting a threatening visit from the secret service. She's freaked out. They rattled her cage. It wasn't a friendly sit down for tea and crumpets . She got some sort of spanking for what she did and she won't be doing it again. So it's fair to say she was threatened that xyz would happen if she were to? Sorry but that's not free speech.

Then I guess we will have to agree to disagree. The Secret Service doesn't operate that way. Make a threat and whether it is credible to YOU, they investigate. The same thing happened under Obama.

Assuming that what KG did was a threat... how any more of a threat wan Snoop...

I know what you're saying and I know a lot of people are frustrated with the current state of things. I do not agree with how the US has conducted the last 15 years of half assed "war." We have drones pulling drive by's against war lords like the Crips and the Bloods. That shit just makes it easier for ISIS and AQ to recruit kids for the fight. There's no such thing as easy war or precision war. Its blow everything up until the good of the good people put everything back together. That's the only thing that ever worked. But that's not the point. There are hundreds of thousands of men that laid down their lives for the flag before we became a society of fake pretenders. I don't think any of them wanted to go to war and kill or be killed. From the old timers I spoke to over the years, who are probably all dead now, "it was what we had to do." Then, "we came back and got back to work and back on with our lives." Those people should not be forgotten in the half assery we have today.

I agree and I think a lot of us remember. To me it's the ones in charge who pretend to care then on a whim send men and women out to die while they're eating a steak dinner and deny Veterans benefits. That's what I think about when I think of the men and women who died in war....

Veterans benefits wouldn't be as big a deal if they were getting decent jobs. Whenever we hear about bad benefits for benefits it means they aren't getting benefits from anywhere else. If they were leaving the service getting decent jobs that came with decent benefits it wouldn't be an issue. But the VA is a disaster. A total disaster. If you've ever seen 10,000 pages of VA medical records that are equal to 15 pages of private facility medical records, you'll know it is the most wasteful outdated agency there is.

When did she say that?!? Was it while she was holding the bloody President Trump head or another time. I hardly know anything about this moo cow griffin so if it wasn't for these memes I wouldn't know anything.

I did a quick Google search on the subject. I guess she thought everyone would be all peachy with what she did?! And to top it off with saying "This is America and you shouldn't have to die for it". Does she not know what and what not to say?! Has she not done enough already?!

Absolutely. Donald Trump is above such petty behavior. Him and Pootin are going to enact single payer health care, and make American Billionaires work for America. Plus they are gonna throw those trashy Mexcans over the fence. CUZ FREEDOM!
