This is police brutality, but it's ok because he/she/it's transgender. Yet for some reason everybody here flips out when there's police brutality toward someone who wouldn't get off a plane. Both are shitty, but you guys needa serious priority check.

Let's stop perceiving things through dialectical thinking and our ingrops and outgroups for a moment and try to come at things in a more logical way. Of course there is not "millions of genders" and you cant just "be *whatever* you want", but science is not completely on one "side", it almost never is. Your genes act as instructions for your body to follow while developing. Hormones are sent out to carry out these instructions. Sometimes non genetic factors can get in the way of developing. (For example a person who has a partially grown leg was probably not caused by genetics, but an issue that prevented the body from fully completing the genetic instructions.) There can be a lot of natural variety in biology and nature and everything basically. When you are developing into either a male or female your body has to go through a set of steps to get to that point. For example, the normal path of development for a male would be starting off with XY sex chromosomes, with a Y chromosome containing a typical male SRY gene. Testes would develop, releasing androgens (testosterone and other male hormones) would prevent the baby from becoming female and from there the primary sexual characteristics (the developmental traits you are born with, such as genitals) and the secondary sexual characteristics as well (dimorphism that develops later in life, what happens during puberty) would be primarily male.
Just like how there is variety in everything, ANYTHING can go wrong ANYWHERE along that line, and it’s actually more common than you would think. Starting from the beginning, complications in early mitosis or meiosis can cause sex chromosomes to be neither XX nor XY. Some people have XXXXY, XXXYY, XO, XXX, half of cells have an XY chromosome while the other has XX, sometimes someone has XY chromosomes with no SRY gene so it basically just functions as a XX sex chromosome, as well as many more other chromosomal possibilities. A health condition or enviromental factors can cause a hormonal imbalance that will prevent the primary sex characteristics (which includes the genitals) from developing to be fully identifiable as male or female, a hormonal imbalence can affect the secondary sex characteristics as well.

Basically, the hormones are what almost completely makes you into a male or a female, beyond that, your chromosomes are just an extremely small microscopic thing inside the nucleus of your cells, you might never know your actual sex chromosome pair without getting it tested and you’ll otherwise still just be completely the way you are. Androgen incencitivity can range from completely unable to masulinize to a very mild incensitivity. Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia when there are mutations in the CYP21A2 gene which causes a 21-hydroxylase deficiency, there is a cortisol deficiency which causes a hyperplasia in androgen producing cells in the adrenal cortex of the adrenal glands. This causes an increase in the amount of androgens being produced, this will only simply increase the amount of androgens in an otherwise normal XY male, and in a XX-sex chromosomed individual it will create a sex hormone imbalance, sometimes even so far over on the spectrum that it will create a complete male. Another interesting condition in sex hormone imbalances is a 5-Alpha-Reductase Deficiency. In 5ARD it will prevent the body from responding to dihydrotestosterones, which is essential in the development of the external male genitalia. People born this way will be born looking completely female, but at puberty with the release of testosterone it develop more and look more male.
reply
3 ups, 1 reply
People in these conditions are usually assigned either male or female based off of what seems the most logical, surgery is often preformed in the incidence of an ambiguous genitalia. But interestingly, many of these people socially transition to the gender opposite of rearing, whether or not they were ever informed of the incidents that occurred early in life. They claim to identify that way very strongly. They become "transgender".

I will not reasonlessly fight for these "facts", as I simply feel they are correct from my knowledge and research. But if there is something I am missing out on, I will not reject it, I would be happy to learn more about it. Honestly I have researched this in an unbiased way, but I would still recommend anyone to do their own research because of course I don’t know everything and I might not be interpreting it in not quite the right way. I would also like to hear your opinions on this and learn from you, everyone has a unique experience, so I can always use someone else's opinions and knowledge to improve my own in some way, whatever way that may be.

Sexually dimorphic behaviour is a trait that has developed through evolution. It physically manifests within complex structures within the brain, the hypothalamic uncinate nucleus is an essential part in this. You can never raise a boy as a girl, or a girl as a boy, it's just how biology works. This has been done and been studied in cases such as David Reimer, who was brought up as a girl and ended up comitting suicide in the end. But what these "transgender" people... I mean the ones who everyone talks about. People who have a normally masculinized external appearance yet claims to be female, or vice versa (who I will here refer to as "transsexuals" for simplicity). These people seem strangely similar to the other people who choose to transition genders contrary to rearing. Studies on animals suggests that the development of neurological dimorphism occurs around the third trimester, while the reproductive system develops quite early on, so theoretically, you could easily have a disconnect between the reproductive system and behavioural sexual dimorphism. Decades of research has been dedicated to finding causes of transsexuality. As with anything, it is hard to fit everyone in the same group. Of course *someone* could just choose to "transition" as a way to fit in or express themselves. Research on the topic is quite expancive, and quite interesting. People have so far been unable to find and prove a psycologically linked cause for transsexality, but of course, that doesnt mean it could'nt happen in an individual. The original research on the transsexual brain was preformed in the 1990s, since then, many follow up studies have been preformed to answer lingering questions. The studies are mainly focused on structures in the hypothalamus, such as the hypothalamic uncinate nucleus. This part of the brain could only be studied through physical examination. A collection of brains from deceased transsexuals has been gathered over time to be studied, so far, all of the brains, both male and female, strongly more closely resembled the opposite sex to which it was born. https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article-lookup/doi/10.1210/jcem.85.5.6564 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18980961

Just a minor quibble; doesn't proving the legitimacy of transsexualism by brain studies reinforce the argument that genders are proven by physical attributes?
reply
3 ups, 1 reply
That may be a reason why it is not widely known or has become a major argument in politics. It does not completely fit the ideal reality of the left or the right in all ways. These arguments are all just part of the Hegelian Dialectic, a planned dispute designed to create a synthesis and achieve a higher level of truth. If we do not understand how the Hegelian dialectic shapes our perceptions of the world, then we do not know how we are helping to implement the vision.

Curiously, men with trans leanings have slightly smaller brains than the average male. Women, of course, are one sixth smaller.
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
On average males have larger brains only due to a larger head size. It has basically nothing to do with sexually dimorphic behaviour or intelligence and it varies a lot from person to person independant of gender.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
Didn't say they had lesser intelligence.
As I did say, women also have smaller brains.
In other words, interesting that their brain size may be a tad closer to that of women.
1 up
You are correct. And in this case the difference occurs during puberty.
reply
2 ups, 2 replies
Many other aspects of the brain have been taken into consideration and examined as well. Many other connections can be made, for example, male to female transsexuals as a group are significantly more likely to have genes related to androgen insensitivity, suggesting this could be one of many potential biological causes. A study found that about one third (33%) of identical twin pairs in the sample were both transgender, while there was only one case in the study of transsexuality among non-identical twins. A sizable proportion of the transgender population have a level of physical sexual ambiguity, meaning a girl who grows up wishing to be a boy may find himself developing as a male during puberty, or a boy who has transitioned to a girl may suddenly find an internal uterus and ovaries during a medical exam later in life and XX chromosomes when blood is tested, or someone may check their medical record and find they were operated on as an infant. There is simply so many things that can go wrong during prenatal development.

You're citing the type of cases that happened years ago. Now XX and XY determination is more direct, rather than inferrred. Further, those are cases that counter your position.
1 up
I do not fully understand what you mean. The studies on the neurology of transsexualism new or old do not contradict each other in any significant way. Chromosomes or the presence of an SRY gene is not always an accurate representation of prenatal level of hormones or gonadal tissue.

In other words, these were incorrectly identified in terms of sexual identity early on.

So, why can't we just go with, male, female, and other?
reply

Because the confusion is mostly between people who are for example born female but want to be male. Adding an 'other' category solves nothing.

They come in pairs. Usually XX (describing the shape), except for the final pair, XY, in male mammals.
