not to mention, the USA is a nation made of of state nations. each state has a popular vote, but not all states are weighed equally to prevent the east and west coast from permanently deciding the vote.

If you don't count the states that Trump won, Clinton won the electoral vote too.

Technically, NO. She didn't get 270 electoral votes, the number required to win.

The point is, the electoral college was designed so that the most populous states don't determine the presidency. It gives the "fly over" states a voice.
reply

The electoral college was created because of slavery. The electoral college creates just as many problems/distortions as it solves.

I do not get why some people except being told by an old outdated policy that they are "not intelligent enough to have a direct vote" People just turn a blind eye and except "EVERYTHING" the government shoves down their throats! Then sit back at home and make a meme to B**ch about changes they could have had a voice in,#bystanderseffect .

Why is CA so blue? Because the electoral college discourages republicans from even placing a vote. Why is WY so red? Because the electoral college discourages democrats from even placing a vote. It is absurd that how your neighbors vote in a national election has such a big influence.
reply

So i guess you feel the Senators and Representative system is out of date too since we vote for them and they vote for laws on our behalf.
The notion that the electoral college was created because of slavery is false.

Jump to conclusions much? The primary reason for electoral college system was slavery. You seem to forget the "only" in that link.
reply
2 ups, 2 replies
Read much? Slavery was AN issue but not the only issue or even the primary issue.
Let me quote from the comment I was replying to so you won't miss it.. "The electoral college was created to protect slave states." This sounds like a belief that it's the only reason for it, which is simply not true.

Do you think the west coast was heavily populated when the electoral college was instituted?
reply

No, so that shows it wasn't instituted to repress west cost voters. They still instituted the system to help balance out the voice of less populated states no mater where they are.

He won 47% of the vote, not 47% of the counties. Voters in the United States are not distributed evenly among all counties. Hillary won fewer counties, but she won many of the most populous in the country. Look at your map. She won NYC, LA County, the Bay Area, Portland, Seattle, Miami, Houston, Chicago, etc etc.

Look at Iowa. She only won a handful of counties, but they were the most populous counties in Iowa: Polk, Linn, Scott, Story, Black Hawk, and Johnson.

I know I was a staunch proponent of a Hillary presidency, but it wasn't until AFTER Trump won that I found out he is a true friend of Israel. That in itself is enough to like the fact that he was elected because I am not sure where Hillary stood, and I know Obama was more of a friend to those Arabs/Muslims who would seek to destroy every Jew on the planet!

In some universe, I may be a butt hurt dumbass, but it's better than being a tool. Whatever hurt my butt experiences is my own, and how ever dumb I am, that's on me. But I don't trail behind anyone, licking up their crumbs and saying, "Yassa that's right, I agree with everything you say suh!" But your man is popular here. You've got that going for you. Isn't it so nice to be a part of the in-crowd? Have so many people who agree with you? So warm and comfortable. Scientists say that conformists get the same kind of rush from following as they do from sex. So I wasn't expecting to change your opinion. I just wanted you to know that it's not based on any actual facts, just your desire to follow and be part of the group. If that doesn't bother you, then cool...but it would bother me to be like that.

No.

I am not a fangirl for any scumbag politician. I'm aware that none of those rich jerks give a crap if any of us lives or dies save for how it can put another few dollars in their pocket.

...and having had bombs actually blow up in busses not far from my home, and missiles falling not far from my home, I can tell you first hand what it is like to feel the ground shake, smell burning flesh and plastic, and find shrapnel near a bus stop one frequents. I would bet that while Trump is in office, we'll be getting bombed again because apparently the politicians don't care about us, and we're just cannon fodder. War is very profitable in this region. I don't bank my security on politicians.

If Trump supports Bibi, then he supports that millions of dollars are currently being stolen from Israel's retired military and police. So he's not supporting me. He's costing me. We're being taxed more to get less. Bibi is taking money from us, and will get more from Trump to support the never ending war, and we, the people in Israel, will see none of that.

Regardless of anyone's opinion, you can't rule someone without their consent. You can intimidate them, torture them, or kill them, but you can't rule them unless they let you. If half the country sincerely doesn't want him, and won't submit to being governed by him, then the rest of you have to just suck it up. That's democracy. If you don't like democracy, move. imgflip.com/i/1i0ced

Are you high? Of course you can rule without the consent of the governed. It's called despotism and is the most common government in the history of mankind. I'm not saying it's laudable or preferred, just that your idea is so wrong, it's left handed.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
It's not wrong. You're just playing semantics games. The meme is about people's opinions, and one can't rule someone opinion-wise, without their consent. You can't force people to accept you if they don't want to (at least not without some serious drugs). Also, in the U.S. every citizen has a legal right to disagree with anything. Those who have a problem with this are also free to disagree, but to say that people don't have that right is a lie.
reply
3 ups
No, you ARE wrong. I'm not playing semantics, you are. In reality, sadly, opinions of whether or not you are ruled with or without your consent mean as much as how many moons you want to see in the night sky - nothing at all. Now that you clarified, I understand what you meant, but it was your failure to communicate, that A. You meant the USA, and B. You were talking about useless opinion, and not any attempt of mine to play word games.

I know, that's why I love it so much. Juicy Death, a very popular memer(and liberal), is someone whose memes that I always try to upvote regardless the political opinion about them. I just hate it when people get so rowdy about politics. I live in Columbia, South Carolina, which is basically a massive blue dot, in a sea of red. I have to put up with liberals screaming all around me about why I'm wrong. I have nothing against them, just a different opinion. I'm sorry for the tone in my last comment. I hope we can all be friends. Political beliefs, or not. :)

From what I can see, it's not mostly conservative. It's mostly neo narc emo rights posing as alt rights, and parroting some old usenet trolls who reinvented themselves to be PUA's and then again to "white" nationalists. A conservative is someone who is a provider or nurturer. Most of these kids seem to be just d*** sizing of who is the biggest victim of "reverse racism", or who can seem like the worst psychopath.
