He is protesting the flag. They are protesting him. He wants America to change and they want him to change. Sounds like both are expressing their opinions as intended. As long as their is no physical violence by either side I don't see a problem.

Agreed. The point I'm making is the intent. While I disagree with Kaepernick's general methods (and interpretation) he has the right to do as he is doing. And those protesting him also have the right. It just seems that many of those counter-protesting seem uncomfortable that some people won't conform to their idea of what America should be like. Therein lies something more complex and potentially dangerous; things are more complicated and more diverse nowadays and many citizens feel as if this is a sign of a loss of empowerment on their part. Many have gravitated to causes and candidates that promise their re-empowerment by methods that might endanger our constitutional freedoms. Promises to raise them up the hierarchy back to a position of dominance. A football player not standing for the national anthem is his right. I don't fear the counter-protests, I fear the passions behind them. If a candidate becomes president who has been stoking these passions will I retain my rights and freedoms? Or will there be laws to punish me when I speak out against other's held beliefs? Kaepernick protests, others protest him, and I made this meme to make my feeling known. That's how it should be for the citizens of the United States of America.

Politics are indeed sharp. I've been (unsuccessfully) trying to stay away from them on imgflip. ;)

Good. Trump and Hillary are cyborgs who can vaporize anyone who oppresses them once they are president.

I feel the same way about the left, BLM and SJW crowd trying to force everyone to agree with them. If you don't your called a racist, bigot, homophobe, etc. Then they try to insulate themselves with "safe spaces" so they don't have to hear things that make them uncomfortable. That or physically assaulting those they don't agree with as they are going to or from political rallies.

Right/left. Either/or. It's the extremes that make up the problematic issues. But I figure if all these grouping fade into history, as most of their ilk in the past have, then things will be okay for the overall future.

Cool. I just put one on there. One that got two views when I submitted it and then....nothing. I think the mods thought it too aggressive or something.

And we'll be appreciated in history for keeping the conservative boot off of freedom's neck.

I have to admit I was a little taken aback at first but then I listened to what he actually had to say. It's just an easy one to get mad about. Both sides, liberals and conservatives don't want to take the time to talk about real issues because real issues are complex and make people feel helpless. Ruining a man's reputation over a piece of cloth is easy.

Yeah, left and right want something to complain about and march around to. I'm a liberal but I'm a classical liberal, meaning I support the autonomy of the individual and freedoms for humanity. I get called a socialist on imgflip by the conservatives who don't understand the concept. I'm as far from that as you can get. (Hell, I just think socialism is conservatism by another name.) I'm glad other players are brave enough to join him. Megan Rapinoe, a women's national team soccer player, took a knee in solidarity during the anthem at one of her league games, which I thought was quite brave. But during her last game in Philadelphia the organization there played the anthem before the players came out so as not to let her make her point. Now THAT was cowardice on their part.

They didn't want to deal with controversy. I'm sure the NFL is loving the attention though.

Yeah. Heh. One thing capitalism is good at; the green of money promotes equality.
