"Identity" is who you are. If you identify as a female, you are a female. If you pretend to be a female, you are a pervert. What the majority of people don't seem to understand is that there is a difference between the two.
Identity defines who you are. Pretending is a momentary mask that people put on. If you ever get to personally meet anyone who is transgender or transexual, you will realize that they do tend to be more like whichever gender they identify as. They aren't pretending, and they didn't just decide that they wanted to try life on an inverted setting (that's a joke, please don't rip me a new asshole for that). If they identify as male, they are mentally more like a male than a female, and vice versa. It's just how their brain works!
Many transgender people are kind and friendly, and are often sexually attracted to the gender opposite of the one they identify as. Someone identifying as a female is likely to be attracted to men. There are exceptions, but it is generally safe to assume that they are not interested in those of the same gender as they identify.
Another thing: Have you ever seen someone who is PHYSICALLY transexual? There are people who were born female, but if you saw them go into the ladies room, you would call security or help (even I would be concerned). They are MALE, however they may have been born. These bathroom bills in NC and other states would FORCE these MEN, who are often sexually attracted to women, to enter the WOMEN'S bathroom. If they really were predators like so many proponents of the bills claim, this would be more likely to cause the scenarios they describe than to prevent them.
None of this means there is no chance of it ever happening, but people going into the bathroom of the gender with which they identify is nothing new, and has been going on for decades at least. During that period, the number of instances of rape in a public bathroom involving transgender/sexual individuals reached a staggerin -- drum roll, please -- 0 cases. 0 CASES.
On the outside, it may seem logical, but if you look closer, past the shitstorm the media has thrown up, you'll see that it really is irrational and really just discriminatory. Things like these bathroom bills are more likely to cause problems than to solve non-existent ones.
Besides, Target is probably less concerned about transgender rights and more concerned about keep part of its customer base. Is all 'bout teh moneh!
Just some food for thought.
