As an Atheist I somewhat agree. I don't go looking for fights but when someone posts something stupidly unbelievable like Jesus walking on water or condones God killing babies I will debate them. However, this guys shirt does not mean he's necessarily a prick It means he is doing what Christians are taught to do from the time they enter the Church. "Witnessing" for his faith. So if this upsets you then maybe you should tell all the Christians you know to stop wearing their "Jesus Saves" shirts and such as well.

Um, actually, I consider myself an agnostic (not sure what I believe). As for an atheist "'witnessing'for his faith" most atheist are pretty clear that athiesm is "not a faith"
Therefore while spreading their faith is a tenet of most religions, spreading athiesm it is not a tenet of athiesm. In fact, atheist should acknowledge the psychological benefits of faith for those who have it (so long as they don't use their faith as an excuse to hurt others).
So yeah, his telling you to debate (argue with) him on athiesm (a topic that is of no consequence if you believe there are no actual consequences to believing or not believing in God, since he does not exist to reward or punish you in an afterlife you do not believe in) is a prick move.

Again I agree. Most "Atheists" are just whiners looking for attention. Those of us who are true just don't want religion pushed on us and will fight when it is. As I have always said, I don't care if the dollar bill says "In God We Trust" as long as it will buy bread. It may as well say "Mickey Mouse is God" When I do get into chat fights with Christians it is because I am amazed at the lengths they will go through to try do defend such a murderous, uncaring, conniving, baby-killing God. If he DOES exist he is not a God worth worshipping in my opinion. In fact, Satan has done more to benefit mankind than God has. If I were to worship a Deity from that book, it would be him. If it were not for him man would still be naked, ignorant and working as slaves in the garden.

Who flooded the planet, killing innocent children and babies? Who murdered all the firstborn of Egypt? Satan didn't. Yeah, Satan is OK. He never kills anyone in the Bible except in Job and that's because the megalomaniacal God let's him to prove how devout his followers are. He gave permission for Satan to kill some of his own JUST TO PROVE A POINT? Is that a deity worth worshipping? Oh, let's not forget he also had one of his followers burn his own daughter to death to show his loyalty. By the way, I never called you stupid. You did.. But I guess you would know your own mental faculties better than I. :-)

Except for the fact that Satan is the one who tempted Adam and Eve to sin, which they then did, thereby bringing sin, death, etc etc into a perfect world that contained none of those things previously. But please, tell me more about how much Satan loves us all and is actually here to save us from a God who sent his son to die for us so that we could be saved. I'm sure Satan will provide you with another contorted reason to follow him.

Oh..you like facts? Who created Satan? Did "He" create Satan knowing what he was going to do? If "HE" did then "HE" is responsible. If "He" didn't, then he isn't God. So far you providing a prime example of what I spoke of. To which lengths Christians will go to defend their brutal and uncaring God.

By asking those questions you assume that the bible is true; If you say the bible is not true your questions would be void.
3 ups, 8y
No. As I explained, I come at it that way because YOU assume it's true. So if it's true explain why God created Satan knowing what he would do.
5 ups, 8y
Okay, I doubt you will listen to this since your view of Christianity is so warped, but here goes; God created angels. They were given free will to choose to follow him. Lucifer rebelled and tried to usurp God. God cursed Lucifer and threw him out of heaven. Lucifer then became Satan. Satan chose to be Satan.

You can't call it a work of fiction if the questions you want me to answer are critisicisms of events associated with that book.

Sure I can. I just did. :-) But knowing that Christians say they believe in it I pose my questions as if it were not because I would like to see how they defend God's actions.

Okay, you got a few things wrong there
1) God only killed the firstborns in Egypt so that the Egyptians would let the Israelites go. Also, that was a one-time deal, and now the Pope has spoken out against abortion.
2) It looks like you are only looking at the things that God did that struck you as wrong. He has done many good things for people and is still doing them today, though you may not hear about them.
3) Without God, there would be no Satan, so you saying that Satan has done more for mankind is a paradox within itself.
4) We would not be slaves in the Garden of Eden. God gave Adam and Eve that garden so that they would live and be happy. He required no work from them.

God didn't kill the Egyptian babies. Pharaoh did by killing babies who were not Egyptian. It was Pharaoh's words that released death unto his own kind.

1:15-22 Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.” There is no exact phrase saying "you did this so I'm doing it to you" but if you research you will see many Theologians say the tenth plague was in retaliation for Pharaoh's command. My professors seemed to go along. I will see what else I can find. It's been almost 30 years.

Most atheist are just whiners - way to generalise, and your statement "If he does exist" would imply you are NOT an atheist. I am. I'm not someone who whines about religion. I respect others beliefs, but must disagree with your unproven, unsupported by fact statement, that most atheists are just whiners. If that seems whiney, sorry but I'm just standing up for myself and my fellow human beings that don't believe in any all powerful beings.

Did you note that when I made that comment I put Atheist in quotation marks? I said most "Atheists" are whiners. Meaning those that whine who call themselves Atheist. They are usually the same ones that whine about a woman's right to kill a child or who smoke weed that has hybrid 20 times over on their way to anti-GMO protest. My comment about if he does exist was coming from the Christian viewpoint. If he's real, please explain why you worship him because the God of the Bible is a Tyrant.

An embryo and a fetus are simply an undeveloped child. I find it amazing that we defend Transgenders by saying they have a gene that causes them to feel that way, yet an undeveloped fetus is just a parasite.

So an acorn is not an oak tree because it does not have all of the parts an oak tree does, right? So would that mean that people without certain body parts are not people either, because they don't have all the parts?
No. An acorn has the parts to become an oak tree. It is the oak tree, we just don't see it as one.

I'm not religious or believe in a biblical god but you sound like the typical "Atheist" that had religion pushed on them by their parents or relative so pushed back. Your interpretation of God is extremely off point and lacks understanding. I know many Atheists and the purest of them all are those that grew up in families with no religious affiliation or influence. They do not debate anyone about God because they know nothing about it and don't care to waste time. The religious abused make the worst "Atheists" because not only are they trying to convince everyone else there is no God they are subconsciously trying to convince themselves.
5 ups, 8y,

Atheism is personal, not a religion. I respect everyone's right to believe whatever comforts them. I have no desire to "spread atheism". It's not mayonnaise. Atheism is not a belief it is the absence of a belief. Just because I know God does not exist does not give me the right to tell anyone else they have to believe me. If a Christian tries to witness to me I politely decline. I'm a grown-up if I can turn away the Avon lady I can turn away a Mormon.
As far a fanatical religious groups well...there are fanatics everywhere. Christians, Muslims, Nazis, Anarchists, communists, and yes some atheistic activists. None of whom have the best interests of the human race as their first tenet. True atheists have to desire to convince anyone of anything since we have no beliefs to spread. So in the future If someone gloats that they can scientifically prove your God doesn't exist let them try. As a real atheist I'm not quite sure who they are trying to convince.

I didn't say it was a religion and know quite well it isn't. You seem to be the type I'm used to hearing. Were you raised in a religious family? Doesn't sound like it. Your sentiments echoed mine quite bit about natural Atheists. However, one statement you made is an assumption. That "God does not exist". You don't "know", you believe. It's impossible to know for anyone that a God exists or not. You can assume based on lack of physical evidence. I'm a spiritual person and it works for me. I have no qualms about Atheism or someone respectfully having a religious outlook but it really makes me laugh when I see jilted religious people become "Atheists". They are as bad as the zealot religious. Peace to you.

No hard core religion. I was raised Catholic and made my sacraments. My statement was "I know God does not exist " holds true for me and only me because I believe there is absolutely no deity. Therefore I know this as my absolute truth. I have no need to convince anyone else. Peace my friend ignore the godly and non-godly kookoos they are all promoting some form of crazy.

You are wrong on your assumptions. My parents never forced anything on me. We never went to church. It wasn't until my mid-teens when I decided to try church on my own. But..I am an avid reader so rather than just buy into what the Pastor was saying I made a huge mistake. I read the Bible. When I asked questions about God's murderous ways and the obvious inconsistencies and all I got back was hogwash, like many of you are spewing here. I left. My interpretation of God comes FROM the Bible. Did he not murder all the innocent babies in Egypt? Didn't he murder many more when he flooded the planet? Didn't he command his followers to rip babies from the womb? Did he not make a follower burn his own daughter?

You don't really need any Bible, just look around. So many mutations, mental disorders etc some people are doomed to suffer all their lives, while others are born perfectly healthy and beautiful. I'd like a believer to explain to me what's the f**king use of that? Why do down's syndrome or social anxiety exist? I'm 100% sure there's no god.

I didn't mean to delete my previous reply. I thought it was copied so I could paste it back with a separation and explanation of each but went I went to paste it didn't work. I'll try to repeat what was said written yesterday.

Pharaoh ordered the killing of all male children in Exodus 1:15 22 and it is believed among some Theologians that this was the model for the tenth plague.

As for the flood, people were horrible to each other and it got out of hand so God wanted to clean the world of bad people. Just as if you were a famer who's animals were being destroyed by wolves you would want to remove them. People were given a way to be saved but it was ignored so they died.

I find it interesting how God was given human emotion in scripture. You would think being all powerful it wouldn't be necessary but man was supposedly made in its image and we have many emotions. As with any god of religion or Mythology its followers are not to question its actions. Seems odd that people thousands of miles apart with no means of communication come up with ideas that are very similar. There is much more to this "god" thing than scripture. There is a universal structure to ancient Theism among people around the world. Personally, until I can find out how it all ties together there will always be a question of how and why.

I personally can't think of a reason why atheists try to spread atheism. According to atheism, our beliefs don't really matter (unless they harm others), since we all die and go in the ground.
4 ups, 8y,
1 reply
I can't think of a reason either. Which is why most Atheists don't try to spread it. What they WILL do is try and stop others from spreading their silly beliefs. If they want to believe in the Easter Bunny than that is their choice but they should do it home. Why do Christians expect and want Atheists to be quiet when they bring up God in every conversation? They will soon learn how we feel though. The Muslims will soon be taking over and the Christians will no longer be the "Cool" religion.
4 ups, 8y
True Bible-believers shouldn't need to bring up God all the time. Our testimonies should speak for us, so that people ask us about our faith. We CAN talk to people about God, but we shouldn't be pushy. Some people don't want to hear it, so they need not be bothered again (at least not for a good long while; some people do change their minds on such matters).
The reason I'd want to spread my beliefs is because I believe if you don't have a relationship with God, you'll end up in Hell. It's harsh, but that's what the Bible says.
Now, I'm not going to go up to an atheist and say, "Get saved, heathen, or God will damn your soul in eternal fire!" That would be absurd. (Cough cough *Westborough* cough cough...) But if someone asks what I believe, I'll tell it to them straight.
Thank you for being reasonable, and I hope I too have been.
