Did you have to take student loans to go to that state college? Go find that state college and look up what it would cost to get your degree now.
I graduated from Texas State in San Marcos, TX. We both went to a community college for the first 2 years while working full time. So, we paid in cash each semester at the CC and had to take out student loans for the 2 years at Texas State. My wife & I lived off campus. We both had part time jobs.
I graduated with $11K in student debt and she went 1 semester longer and had $15K in student debt.
I went to look right now at the average per semester for Texas State and it's $40k-ish per semester. So, to do 2 years like I did to get a degree it would be $160K in student loans.
So, go look at your alma mater, what's the average per semester cost today? Compare that to how much you paid in total.
