Savannah Craven was interviewing passersby when one woman who didn’t appreciate her questions, Brianna Rivers, punched her in the face and sent her to the hospital.
Rivers was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree assault. Assault in the second degree is a class D felony. The maximum possible sentence is 7 years in prison. Because assault in the second degree is also classified as a violent felony, the judge is required to impose a minimum sentence of 2 years in prison. For an assault in the second degree conviction in addition to being sentenced to at least 2 years in prison you may also be required to pay a fine of up to $5,000.
