Having a few offline video-game apps
to fight boredom and keep the mind
stimulated is a really good idea in the
event of an Internet outage, especially
if you happen to have a smartphone
or computer still on you, in particular
one that still functions. Here's a
list of offline video-games that you can
download readily off of F-Droid.org to
choose from when making your
Apocalypse-Caliber Gaming Library:

Many would recommend "gobandroid"
to play the ancient game of Go, which
has very simple rules, but is still
immensely deep.

Sokoban is an ancient Japanese puzzle
game in which you push jewels into
target zones through different maps.
Be careful that you don't corner yourself
or the jewels! The game provides
354 levels, each sorted by difficulty,
and may provide mental stimulation
for years.

Shattered Pixel Dungeon is a mobile
dungeon-crawler roguelike with very
good pixel art graphics. Every game
is unique, with four different playable
characters, randomized levels and
enemies, and over 150 items to collect
and use. It's also updated quite
frequently!

Minetest is a near-infinite world block-based
sandbox-game and a potential game-engine
in its own right, inspired by games like
InfiniMiner, Minecraft and the like. The
default Minetest game that comes with
Minetest is rather bland in scope, so be
sure to download some mods (such as
Mesecons, mobs, and hunger) and/or
some games (such as Mineclone 2: a clone
of Minecraft gameplay in the Minetest
engine, with libre code and graphics, or
Nodecore: a voxel sandbox game with
no fancy GUI and a limited inventory,
where crafting takes place in-world instead
of on a crafting table in a menu, and
furnaces have to be designed and
constructed.)

Lichess isn't on F-Droid yet, but it's an
open-source game nonetheless, and the
APK-file can be downloaded from their
website (please look it up). A lot of
functionality is online, but when the app
is in offline mode it can be used to play
chess against the computer or against
a friend by using your phone as a
chessboard.

Space Trader is a game that's all
about traveling to different star systems
and making money trading stuff in space.
There's no 3D graphics, though - you
just choose a star-system and trade stuff.
It hasn't been updated since 2019-02-05,
but it's still pretty fun.

Simon Tatham’s Portable Puzzle Collection
has 39 singleplayer puzzles including
variations of popular games such as
Mastermind, sudoku, and Minesweeper.
The APK-file isn’t available on F-Droid –

("Palazzolo" - Italian for "palace-
builder") is Sicilian and can be
traced back to the Norman "De
Hauteville" dynasty of Sicily,
who were actually some of the
most enlightened rulers in
Medieval European history,
having con allowed religious
tolerance and cosmopolitan
mixture of cultures to allow for
a golden age of art, music,
architecture, literature, culture,
philosophy, science, and
gastronomy in Sicily. They also
built a LOT of palaces, castles,
cathedrals, fortresses, and public
works in their domains.
Meanwhile, my mother's Irish side
("Martin", nee "Crian" or "Craigana")
were of landed Irish-Gaelic nobility
in the western region of Ireland
known as Connacht who served
as the Royal Stewards of the
Kings Of Connacht back in the
day - we still have relatives in
County Roscommon living in a
manorial estate over there to
this day, being direct descendants
of the ClanO'Flanagan that we
both hail from and once served
for Connacht. This is all pretty
cool stuff, right? I never knew
about any of this until I sat
down to do research about
my family history out of sheer
boredom a few years ago -
funny, how the tables turn,
right?
