To me those words feel like they are coming off the page. John is amazed at the thought that we Christians are actually CHILDREN of GOD. Can you believe that, after all the bad things we've done?! Romans 5 talks about how—as ungodly sinners before being saved—we hated God. And God certainly does not need us. But He still chose to die for us so that we can become what we are today: His actual Christian children.

The writers didn't even know each other, so how can critics claim they conspired? That last one was during war, but some of the Bible was also written in times of peace. So there were many different moods of the authors, from the heights of joy to the depths of despair and sorrow.
