I'm in a situation where when I met my wife she was already pregnant with a loser's child. I married her and adopted the child and I wouldn't change it for anything. She's now four years old.

I appreciate that. Apparently there aren't a lot of guys out there that would do that, but more than I thought there were. It's tough at times, because my wife is on dialysis and mostly blind, as well. I take care of them and wouldn't have it any other way. I'm sure I'm not the only guy out there that would do this, but we seem to be a dying breed.

You are a blessing to your family .. your rewards will be great my friend. I have 2 buddies that adapted kids from deadbeats,.. and are are also wonderful dads. They would lay their lives down for those kids,.. and sadly, not all step dads would. I think one of the saddest things I have seen is uncaring step parents... And kids pick up on that shit too. Its not their fault. The bible is pretty clear on the innocence of children and their mistreatment. There is a story I would like to share with you sometime,.. but not on this forum,.. about an abused little girl from a step dad. I kind of correctected a wrong if you know what I mean,.. I got tired of this creep getting warnings by cops.

I hear ya man. I lived with my ex for 3 years wanting to die because I didn't want to lose my daughter. When we did finally split I never missed picking her up on a Friday to be with me until Monday morning no matter what. Now that she has been with me the last 10 years, her mom sees her about 2-3 hours every other Sunday and misses a lot of those. I don't get it.

Great comment again to this issue! I have learned in my years.. you either have a paternal / maternal instinct. . Or you dont. My ex.. did not. I'll never figure out what disfunctional gene in a person could make them deny, or ignore,.. abuse, not take care of.. or love their own kid. On the flip side of that coin.. we see single parents who have gone over and above and more than compensate for the other parents absence.

It helps to have a great kid. :)

I stuck around with my daughter's mother much too long for the same reason bro. It's scary when most judges automatically think the child is better off with their mother. There is a lot I could say on this topic, but a public forum is probably not the best place to air all my dirty laundry. It makes me really happy knowing that I find this awesome meme site, and some of the best people on it are single fathers. I'm honored to have met both you and invicta.

I grew up with the best example of a father a man could ever hope for. Even though I have seen people who never knew their father turn out to be amazing dad's themselves. In my case it is just a simple case of having the perfect example to follow.

It ain't always easy and the cost was high, but in the end I got what I wanted. I know you guys did too. Its always great to see others going through the same stuff, and working hard to do right!

I hear that, spent thousands on a lawyer but I won in the end. Of course I'll never see a dime of child support, that is one area that is completely gender biased in my opinion. But no amount of money means anything compared to the love I feel for my children.

I also grew up with a great dad,.. a real saint. Its amazing how close our stories are brother! I lost so much in keeping my kid,.. when it was all done,.. I was in a basement apartment. Lost it all. Had to start over,.. but was blessed! I never asked for child support, .. but the court made an award based on her previous earnings,.. she wasnt even there for final hearing. I never got a dime,.. never chased her for it. I never let that stop my kid from seeing her when she came in town either. I left those decisions to my daughter,.. even though I was under no legal obligation to allow any visitation. My daughter turned out better than I was,.. or am! I will always credit God for my fortune!

Unfortunately in our society stories like ours are passed over for a story about horrible parenting. I don't know how, why, or when "bad news" became the only news. Thank God their are sites like this where people can come in contact with other good people and share their stories. It's always nice to realize you are not alone, and that others feel the same way that you do.
