At the time of the American Revolution, Russia and Britain were competing against each other to snatch up part of Iran's territory in what we call the Great Game.

I had to look it up because I didn't know anything about it and it turns out it was actually during the Civil War when Russia sent its naval squadrans to New York and San Francisco.
