First off, during the game, the referee did not even signal any foul, not even a yellow card. During the broadcast, commentators were wondering why there was a foul review on the play. Thirdly, the referee, Claus, watched the video replay in slow motion, which is a violation of FIFA rules. The replay is supposed to be watched at normal speed. The red card was completely inappropriate in light of similar play by Messi a previous game.
