If we're not supposed to eat animals then why are they made of (very delicious) food? 🤔

Boiling bans are retarded, lobsters don't feel pain from it. It's just another way for the government to interfere in our lives and deny us simple pleasures.

Agreed. Lobsters literally don't have pain receptors like we do. And lobsters are one of the lesser life forms that don't even have souls/consciousness like Humans, Dogs, Dolphins, Elephants, Gorillas etc. etc.

Lobsters aren't even sentient in the way most people mean. They have automatonic brains like a more advanced bacteria.

Lobsters are sentient beings. They feel pain, or they wouldn't avoid harm. They're fairly clever little bugs ...

The good news, is that there's a human way to kill them, prior to boiling them, that's not that hard to do. It involves something like a crochet needle, through the brain. Cruelty isn't necessary for cooking.

Lobsters do not have consciousness or souls. They are automatons like plants and bacteria. There is no soul/consciousness in a lobsters being to experience suffering.

That sounds like it a false argument based in faith - rather than a false argument base in poorly conducted scientific exploration, or just bad logic and fallacies.

It's based on observable reality.

Please direct me to the Biology text book which positively declares which animals have souls - and which do not...and that Lobsters lack pain receptors ... Just because YOU WANT to believe some things - doesn't make them true.

A creature without the ability to even recognise it's own existence lacks a soul. How can a soul reside in a brain that lacks the capacity to perceive beyond case instinct.

There is no biology textbook that will back up the claim that lobsters are anything more than mindless prey. And very delicious prey at that.

I don't think Biology textbooks often stray into questions about self-awareness or consciousness.

If Lobsters lacked pain receptors - they would not have survived into this present era. They avoid pain, and seek the pleasure of food.

Certainly Lobsters are tasty - but they're not Kosher. Why would you risk the karmic and perhaps culinary consequences of eating food killed in cruel fashion - when there's an easy way to kill them instantly and painlessly?

Do cattle feel pain? I'm pretty sure that they do. Do they have recognize their own existence? Hard to say... But going by your reasoning if they don't, then they lack a soul. Aside from the laws of Noah, why wouldn't we just eat pieces of them, in front of them, while they're still alive?

Cattle have the brain capacity to feel pain, and emotions. Lobsters, spiders and all other insectoid creatures do not have the brain capacity to feel these basic experiences let alone bear consciousness.

Bacteria do not have souls.
Potatoes do not have souls.
Lobsters do not have souls.

They are just food for us, who do have souls.
1 up, 2d
If they could not sense pain - they would not have survived this long. If they react to stimuli they have the power to process it.

The kind of self-assured reasoning you're offering, was once put forward as being true of black people.

And it sounds like torturing lobsters would be cool with you... You're not as likely to be a gourmet - as you are to be a serial killer.

So in other words, lobsters trying to jump out of a pot of boiling water is just their version of doing the mamba?
2 ups, 2d,
1 reply
Lobsters jumping out the pot is no diffrent than a venus fly trap clenching its jaws when prey lands in its mouth. The plant isnt a conscious being. It's just sentient biology, self preserving. That's not the same as a consciousness being experiencing what its tiny brain is perceiving.

No, they aren't consciousness beings with thoughts. They are food.

Actually lobsters use muscles to move.

Venus fly traps have three trigger hairs on the inside of their flaps, and two of them have to be touched in quick succession in order to trigger the plan to emit electrical signals which causes it to rapidly grow two lines of cells which causes the trap to close due to the slight increase of mass from the new cells where the two halves are joined.

Consciousness or lack of, compared to what? People who cannot perceive anything other than themselves as being conscious because their concept (for lack of a better term) of reality is themselves as the center of their infinitesimally small dot of a universe as they wake, eat, crap, sleep, and repeat with all mental processes fully automated? Oh, the irony,,,

Consciousness is not I think, therefore I is. It is to be able to step outside of oneself and realize that everything else can do so also because there is more to life than one's own self-absorbed instinct-driven need to survive.

So by that definition Grok (or any other Artificial intelligence) qualifies as a being with a soul in your eyes.

My gosh, we really should be more considerate of the Terminator's feelings. The ones and zeroes get real melancholic in their cyber realms...
0 ups, 2d
No, that's quite literally your definition.
1 up, 2d
No.

A.I. arent conscious. Lobsters aren't conscious. Thats literally the opposite of my argument.

F**kin hell, lay off the bevvy because you clearly can't read straight whilst on it.

Yeah, really big antennae that can sense things from hundreds of yards away are purely decorative features. They don't feel a thing. They just pretend they do. They don't feel for their food, they go to the grocers and buy it.

Soul means life. That's what the word means. It's not a little magical invisible being that possesses everyone because everyone is so special that they deserve to be possessed by an invisible little beings gifted by the sky gods.

Good grief.
2 ups, 2d,

Most animals do not possess souls. Lobsters are automatons. Nothing more than an advanced clump of cells.

You think lobsters can feel pain when they don't even have pain receptors? Or that they can feel emotions when their brains do not have the capacity.

Goodness gracious.
0 ups, 2d,

Soul means life. That means that is alive. It is not a substance or a plane or realm of being reserved for humans because they're like so awesome and they look just like their really awesome Chad Gods. Soul is the act of being alive.

*le sigh* I was being facetious. Lobster antennae are not simply decorative features. You can't even feel anything unless you're touching it directly. Lobsters can feel things from several yards beyond reach. Receptors are required for that. Far more receptive receptors.

Emotions are nothing more than primitive versions of what we like to call thought. That's why emotions are centered around the hypothalamus. That's why they're not shaped or influenced by logic. That's why they make those really special big-brained humans to really dimwitted things. A lot.
2 ups, 2d,
1 reply
No.

Bacteria acting on the mindless biological process is not consciousness.

Emotions are not thoughts. At all. Emotions are the body's primitive response to stimuli. *Thoughts are thoughts. *Feelings are feelings.

Yes, emotions are not logic, because logic is a gift reserved for conscious beings to utilise it.

2 ups, 2d
No. They are not your ideas. You haven't had a single original thought in the 8 years I've known you let alone be all the way up on par with me in terms of wisdom.

I'll make it simple.
Lobsters are not consciousness beings. They are food.

I am right.
