Y'all might try to wrap your head around the concept that the truth is not islamophobic. Every time a radical islamist kills innocent people, islamofascists accuse anyone telling the truth of being islamophobic. What's a dhimmi? What's a kafir? Why are the people cutting the heads off Christians on the shores of Egypt, killing Nigerian Christian women and children, r@ping, torturing and killing Jews on October 7th, killing the Druze in Syria, shooting up Bondi Beach in Australia, driving vehicles into Israeli bus stops, stabbing Jews on the streets of Jerusalem, wearing suicide vests and chanting Death to Israel, Death to the Untied States all islamic? I've tried to understand islam for several decades. I worked with a muslim from Montenegro who immigrated from there to the US during the Bosnian conflict. We only had one vehicle where we were working, so I helped him to find a local mosque and drove him there every weekend so he could worship. In all respects he was as you describe. But, he thought his wife was having an affair and stabbed her 28 times. She survived, she was never having an affair, he refused to listen to her because he felt differently, they are still married today. I have trouble reconciling that act with the claim of a "religion of peace."

Hanukah is an adaptation of the Persian New Year celebration in exactly the same way that Christmas is a syncretization of the Roman Saturnalia holiday. And of course the Egyptians, while very different from the ancient Persians in their culture and religion, celebrated the Solstice just as seriously.

Actually Nowruz, the Iranian New Year is on the first day of spring, the spring equinox. 



It would appear that what you had in mind was Yalda, a winter solstice celebration.

It does: So, when the Hasmoneans (who were, for their time, rather reactionary religious purists) drove out the Greeks, they had to deal with the fact that many Jews had adopted customs of the surrounding cultures. After the stay in Babylon, some of them had taken up elements of Persian cultural practice (Book of Esther, anyone?). 



So the Hasmonean dynasty found a way to make the New Year/solstice celebration acceptably theologically Jewish, just like Christians did with the Saturnalia celebrations a few centuries later. Mad respect for the intercultural exchange!

The Babylonians of course were a huge influence on the Jews. 



From the Iranians the Jews got none other than the concept of monotheism. The concept of Satan as evil came from them, as well as belief in the afterlife, a spiritual plane of existence, the final battle between good and evil... The first Messiah, and only gentile one, was Cyrus the Great, who liberated the Jews from Babylonian captivity and allowed them to go home, even funding the rebuilding of the Temple.

It's a little rich for me, honestly. Fortunately, France is pretty cosmopolitan, so you can get many different kinds of food there. I'm grateful every day for immigration and cultural diversity in my country, and I appreciated it while I visited France.
