As an adult with a job, there are two categories of things I want: stuff I can afford, and stuff I can't afford. Stuff I can afford, and stuff I can't afford. If I can afford it, I buy it when I want it rather than waiting for someone to maybe give it to me for Christmas. If I can't afford it, no one is going to spend that much money on a Christmas present. Anything someone is willing to buy for me is either something I could otherwise buy for myself right now or don't want.
For kids, on the other hand, they are all basically broke, so Christmas and birthdays are usually the only time they can get a lot of the things they want.
Christmas is for everyone, but the presents are more of a pain than a fun thing once you have a job
