U.S. President Donald Trump was awarded the first FIFA Peace Prize for his "extraordinary action" in trying to achieve peace, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said.

The Daily Beast has described the prize as a "fake peace prize" which was "created by FIFA in an ongoing attempt to suck-up to Trump."

FIFA had not made clear the manner by which the recipient was selected, or the form the prize would take. According to The New York Times, the prize was not discussed at the FIFA Council or with FIFA Vice Presidents, neither of whom had input into the selection criteria, prior to its creation in October 2025.

Infantino described Trump as a "dynamic leader" who had engaged in diplomatic efforts that "created opportunities for dialog, de-escalation and stability."

During his remarks, Infantino cited agreements and peace initiatives he attributed to Trump’s leadership and read from the official citation:

"The 2025 FIFA Peace Prize… is proudly bestowed upon the President of the United States of America, the Honorable Donald J. Trump… for exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world."

The “FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World” will be bestowed on behalf of all football-loving people from all around the world - more than five billion of the world’s population.
