Anyone in the South who supported seceding and forming the Confederate States of America was a traitor. Are you proud of that heritage?

That is one way to look at it.
Another allegedly, is that the seceding took place when Congress was not about to Fund the Southern Route of the 5 Routes planned and surveyed by U.S. Secretary of War Jefferson Davis, post Mexican American War. Atlanta was the largest Railroad Hub established at that time and it would have been a breeze to use Slave Labor to connect the two Southern most Routes first to San Diego and L.A. George McLellan had surveyed the Northernmost route from Minnesota to Tacoma, and much of San Diego to Tacoma.

The Northern newly formed Republican Party had the next four generations of income on their minds,
as did the Forbes family with one of the brothers that was sent to China, being adopted by the richest man on earth, Wu Bingijan, in the city with the 13 factories, Guangzhou in Canton province. This adopted son wanted to make Chicago the railroad hub and Ohio and Michigan the factory centers that could connect West first hubbing St. Louis to San Francisco. He wanted to get congress to fund that first, and as president of Michigan Railroad in 1850's, his opinion was respected by the Railroad Tycoons. See, through his connections with the Bill Gates/Elon of his day, he could get cheap Chinese labor to start from the west through Sacramento; and he could get the UK to send Irish and Germans whom were famished to the midwest, providing cheap labor, then English speaking townsfolk to inhabit the west and subdue natives onto reservations. You see, none of this group of the Aztec Club of 1847 wanted the spoils to go to the South; they wanted it for themselves. Howqua provided startup funds.

They did not want to pay the south for their eminent domain loss in property value, as the UK just did freeing their slaves. They'd rather confiscate all their lands, and leave them impoverished in the aftermath of war. It would take generations for enough former slaves to become educated and engaged in earning their own living and saving and spending money. Irish and Germans were already free enough to understand a non-slavery working relationship for The Man.

This U.S. Civil War may have been about Chinese Markets being opened up, as much as the moral victory of the ending of Slavery as an institution in the USA.
Some may contend Wilberforce did more than Lincoln for that cause. It's all good, yet there was one glaring example of a more civil solution to the ending of slavery, and that was the British that gave the U.S.A. that institution

Anyone who supported the Revolution was a traitor to the King of England. Yes. I am proud of my heritatge. Are you proud of your heritage?

I bet your ancestors were immigrants who came to America well after the Revolutionary and Civil Wars just as my ancestors did.

He's not from here either.

Get this, he plays in an Irish folk band. In South Carolina. South Carolina. An Irish folk band. Not Bainbridge in the Bronx, South Carolina. Irish folk band. Just in case any of the 15 Irish immigrants who live in South Carolina feel like a little reminiscing for music from the old country.

Ken Burns documentary about the American Revolution probably has Irish wannabe MAGAs claiming to have brave ancestors who fought in the revolution.

Brave souls brought here as indentured servants only to do so much for the revolution cause.
Suddenly none of them came here later because of the Potato Famine.

Americans in the second half of the 19th century viewed Irish immigrants the same as conservatives view Hispanic immigrants today.

In Manhattan, where many had been living, they actually had less rights and access to jobs and whatnot than free Blacks did. There was a massive riot in the Five Corners neighborhood that lasted something like 5 days after they noticed that Irish name after Irish name kept getting picked in a 'lottery' draft during the Civil War (as seen in Gangs of New York).

People often credit the movie Birth of a Nation as inspiring a revival of the Ku Klux Klan. But that wasn't the only thing. A significant rise in Irish and also Italian immigration turn of the century also spurred their ire, being that they were mostly Catholic.

That immigration wave was also a big reason behind Prohibition. Catholic immigrants such as the Irish, Italians, and also Mexicans were seen as heavy drinkers, and the demon drink would of course lead them into violent behavior and criminality. So a major part of the dry movement was a reaction out of fear of what those people might do to proper Protestant folks.

And now so many Americans are wannabe Irish on St. Patrick's Day.
1 up, 2h
Well here in New York they say everybody is Irish on St Patrick's Day. But that probably started with politicians looking to garner votes.

Many conservatives are Hispanic. Many conservative leaders are Hispanic. Lots of Hispanics voted for President Trump. If you are not sure what conservatives are thinking, maybe talk to some instead of making crap up.

Based on the memes of conservatives on imgflip, they fear the Hispanic invasion of their white America and want to deport them all.

Whites, Backs, Hispanics, and many others fear unvetted mass migration from all over the world being allowed in the US with no plan of how to support them. The same is happening in Europe. Migrants with skills who can support themselves and contribute to the culture are welcome. a74814, please pay attention and stop making up crap. Chicago?

Chicago?

a74814, what is going on in Chicago at this very moment? Chicago is turning against Mayor Brandon because he spent the budget on migrants instead of citizens.

Chicagoans always turn against their mayor. One got voted out because of a snow storm.

Modda, I have no Irish ancestry that I know of, but I do know some Irish history. You don't seem to know any. Irish immigrants have been coming to the US since the beginning. They have fought in every American war, often on both sides.

Now the guy. Who plays traditional Irish music. In an Irish folk band. Has no Irish ancestry.

Pro Tip: Whenever improvising claims, do a little research before you post the fabricated claim, not after.

I knew a white guy who played flamenco. He was blond and had no Spanish heritage. Modda, climb up the stairs of your mother's basement now and then and talk to some real people. You will find that they don't fit in your little boxes so well. Your bigotry is ridiculous. Do you go around measuring people's heads?

My Ancestry DNA results says I'm 1% Leinster, Ireland. Can I play in the band?
1 up, 2h
I can do different Irish accents, maybe I could sing for them.

Both sides of my family have been here for 200+ years. I have ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Lots of people do. I'm not that special.
2 ups, 5h
Yes, I'm proud of my heritage. My ancestors have been in America for 125 years. Just got my DNA results back from Ancestry - 15 ancestral regions in Europe. I've been able to trace ancestors back to the mid 1500's in Germany.

Your heritage includes slavery and racism?

I can't tell if you're defending slavery and a racial cast system or not. Yes, it's true that there was racism in all parts of the country in the 1800s but it was obviously more severe in southern states were black people could be enslaved and denied all of their basic rights.
2 ups, 7h,

Also, you do realize that there were free Blacks who owned plantations and lots and lots of slaves, right?
RIGHT??
1 up, 6h
This is true. John Carruthers Stanly was one of the largest slave owners in NC. William Ellison
was a plantation owner with several slaves in SC. Many other examples.
1 up, 7h
The racial caste system was enforced North, South, East, and West. Black folks were not allowed in many areas after sundown or at all. State of Oregon, blacks & Chinese were not allowed to reside. How was it worse in the South? Very general and vague. New Orleans compared to Memphis compared to New York, Chicago. All were different. All were racist well into the 20th century.

Slavery in the South was inherited from Africa, where it was practiced for thousands of years. Soon after the Revolutionary War, most Northern states abolished it. In an industrial economy with lots of immigrant labor, slavery made no economic sense. Histroy is not about morality. It's about cause and effect. I do not defend slavery, but it has existed for millennia.

Yeah, um, no.

Slavery in the US South was inherited from the Europeans who invaded there. Slavery in Europe goes back thousands of years before there was a Europe.

The church eradicated slavery in Western Europe. Slave culture did not exist among New World colonists. It was imported from Africa.
0 ups, 2h,
1 reply
No, it did not.
There just wasn't as much need for slaves when everybody in effect is one under Feudalism. Also the type of farming, the soil, the climate, etc. Slaves simply were not cost-effective for dirt farmers growing cabbage and broccoli.

European slavery started in 1492 courtesy of Cristobal Colon in Hispaniola.
First they were the indigenous Tainos, then it was Africans after the Tainos started getting wiped out.
1 up, 2h
OK. So you agree that slavery was not a part of Western Europe. Where did slaves come from again?

People wonder how the Spartans would have turned out if they continued on the way they were, leaving babies with the slightest of imperfections out to die in the hills. A super healthy race of humans.

But the thing is, they had slaves they left with their wives while they spent years away from them in training, and basically the wives managed to bear children without their husbands around, so you do the math,,,

On a side note, Modda, you were complimented the other day by AdamSmithsInvisibileHand when that BOT asked me in a reply if I were Modda...
You're welcome.

Ah, you're thanking me that he actually claimed you were me?
That is a compliment to you isn't it.

Then again, he also thought you were an entitled socialist leftist who didn't appreciate how much better you've had it then Boomers did. Comfort-wise, anyways. Other than that, you did miss out on all the good stuff culturally and whatnot. Reruns of the classics on Nickelodeon just aren't the same thing. And the music? Most that is commonly heard is not even music.

As if there wasn’t slavery north of the Mason-Dixon line.
I never see you whine and complain about the Muslims in north Africa who sold their conquered Blacks into slavery. I never see you whine and complain about the African tribes who, after conquering neighboring tribes, sold their captives into slavery.
You only ever bitch, whine, & complain about white people. 🤔
