We should start gradually phasing out public schools, since homeschooled students and students who go to private schools perform better. There are many suburbs that could abolish their public school districts if parents prefer to homeschool their children or send them to private schools. Those suburbs could then spend more time and money on other needs, and/or cut property tax rates.

Unfortunately many families must have both parents working, so home school isn’t viable for everyone without assistance. Now if they gave everyone the money they are giving the schools maybe some could afford to stay home and educate.

Ya that would work, or use it for homeschooling.

If vouchers enabled all families to send their kids to private schools or homeschool their kids if they desired, many public school buildings might become empty. Maybe those empty school buildings could be converted into combination libraries/recreation centers.
