Well, there's a major difference between the two. One was a drug addict who was accidentally killed by a cop, the other was a debater who was murdered by someone who doesn't care for some of the basic principles of free speech and democracy: the ability to (without explicitly calling for violence) speak your mind.
And don't give me that "if you don't mourn him you're fired" BS, most if not all of the people who say they got fired for not mourning him were actively celebrating his murder.
