being anti-illegal-immigration does not mean being anti-immigration.

When ICE raids preschools and churches, all kinds of immigrants feel threatened.

Yes…the parents/caretakers put the kids in that position, not the ICE agents that are doing their job

So, if you crossed the border illegally to escape a civil war, or organized crime targeting you and your family (as some immigrants did) you deserve that?

I hope you receive more empathy when life windshields you. You may not have been in middle school recently, but they teach that when bad things happen to others, we can choose to be a bystander who does nothing (and tacitly reinforces the bad) or an upstander who speaks up and shows empathy.

As long as they've come here legally, they have nothing to worry about. Name one immigrant that has been deported unfairly.

And before you reply, let me remind you that crossing a border illegally, by definition, makes you a criminal, regardless of what you do afterward.

Native born children of people who crossed the border illegally have been deported with their parents, OR have had their families ripped apart. Also, people who were legally pursuing asylum claims have been detained and deported.

Fair points. I actually did some more research about what ICE has been doing, and while I'm happy with 99% of what they're doing, I will agree that there have been a few times where they have gone too far. I'll actually be talking about child immigrants in the next episode of my political podcast. I recently heard about a pretty crazy story about how Biden handled them during his term.

I am considerably less than 99% content. The list of issues is longer than my arm, but I'll start with these numerical questions that throw the arbitrary cruelty of the process into relief.

Also, given the lack of transparency, we really don't know how many American citizens have been harassed and detained by these goons. The very tip of the iceberg:

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/ice-deport-us-citizen-kids-stage-4-cancer-honduras-rcna224501
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/us-citizen-detained-ice-l-says-wasnt-water-24-hours-rcna224493

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/aug/05/us-citizens-jailed-ice-los-angeles

The next layer of injustICE would be the non-citizens who have been complying with immigration and/or asylum procedures . . . the list goes on from there.

71.1% of current detainees have no criminal convictions: IRRELEVANT AND MISLEADING

• In addition to the 28.3% of people detained who had criminal convictions, an additional 24.7% of people had pending criminal charges as of June 2025 (according to snopes.com).
• Breaking immigration laws is not technically a crime, it is a civil violation. These alone don't lead to criminal convictions, but it doesn't make it any less illegal. Saying that only a small percentage of people in detention are criminals is overlooking how many civil violations they have broken, e.g., crossing a national boarder illegally. ICE is able to detain these people under the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia was deported wrongfully: FALSE

• He admitted that he entered the US illegally in 2012, which, regardless of what he did afterwards, made him eligible for deportation under the Immigration and Nationality Act (according to BBC).

ICE deported kids who were legally US citizens to be with their parents, who were also deported: TRUE

• Some people claim that the parents had no say in the matter, but the Department of Homeland Security has denied these claims, saying that "In both of these cases the mothers had a final order of deportation. Rather than separate their families, ICE asked the mothers if they wanted to be removed with their children or if they wanted ICE to place the children with someone safe the parent designates. Both mothers choose to deport with their children."
• While it is suspicious that the mothers have publicly denied all of the above, I'm gonna trust the Trump administration on this one due to how transparent they've been. According to The Times "President Trump spoke to journalists more in the first 100 days of his second term than any other president in history." If Trump was really hiding something, you'd think that he'd want to keep as far away from journalists are possible.

A US citizen was denied water while being detained: POSSIBLY TRUE

• Okay, honestly, this one is kinda suspicious, especially since ICE and the DOJ haven't even tried to defend themselves.

Anything else you'd like me to fact-check?

The piece that you aren't getting from these articles is that they are people whose lives are being ripped apart, along with those of their families, coworkers, and communities. And it's not great for the rest of us, either.

If their lives are getting ripped apart, they should have thought of that before they came here illegally. I'm more than happy to welcome new citizens, but these people deliberately bypass the system. If somebody commits a crime (or in this case a civil violation), is their sentence affected by how much their lives are going to get ripped apart if they're found guilty? Should I be allowed to rob the store if I'm hungry?

I am sad that their lives were getting ripped apart, which is why I hope they learn from this experience and come back legally next time.

I can't respond to your later comment, but here's one (several thing): bringing martial law to US cities; licensing masked thugs to terrorize people in broad daylight; making loyalty the test for offices, not competence (looking at you, Hegseth!); his stated admiration for Hitler; the fact that he's building concentration camps on US soil; his multiple attempts to destroy the institutions of our republic . . . . and more to come soon.

Do you understand what the asylum process is about? Many of the people who are getting deported were in the process of seeking asylum. Traditionally, in a non-fascist country, that is a protected status as long as they are complying with the process, for humanitarian reasons.

Also, a large number of visa-overstays are from people who are from Western Europe. We're not hearing of ICE brownshirting in those communities. It really gives the impression that this administration doesn't care as much about illegal immigration as it does about non-white immigration. I'm so embarrassed for us.
0 ups, 6d
So...they were in the country WHILE they were in the process of seeking asylum? Why didn't they wait until they were done? That's equivalent to me walking into Disneyland and THEN buying a ticket once I'm inside the park and I've tried a few of the rides. Still illegal.

Also, name one thing that makes Trump a fascist. Just one thing.

1. Trump has the authority to deploy the National Guard if he deems it necessary for national security (according to Yahoo), and it does not violate martial law, which, according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, means, "the temporary substitution of military authority for civilian rule, usually invoked in time of war, rebellion or natural disaster." Just because the military is present doesn't mean they're in complete control of the state.

2. I don't know what "masked thugs" you're talking about, but as we've already clarified, ICE agents are allowed to wear masks in order to protect them from such threats as doxing and harassment (according to the NYTimes), and they are allowed to detain people who are breaking the law, or committing a civil violation (see above comments for more details).

2.5: According to Yahoo, in Lyons Colorado, "assaults on ICE officers are up 400 percent since this time period last year." Other sources say that, nationally, assaults are up 1000%. And I don't think you're in any position to be complaining about ICE agents wearing masks when you liberals are still wearing masks years after COVID.

3. According to Perplexity: "Pete Hegseth's qualifications for Secretary of Defense include his commission as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army National Guard after graduating from Princeton University in 2003. He served in active deployments including Guantanamo Bay, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and earned military awards such as two Bronze Star Medals and the Combat Infantryman Badge."
To put this into perspective, the Washington D.C. police chief, as demonstrated in this video (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/PtUgJbPHNr4) is unable to define what the "chain of command" means, and in May of 2024, Kamala Harris said that "Because of the Inflation Reduction Act, we are dropping trillions of dollars on the streets of America right now." Inflation is a direct result of having too much money in circulation, in the same way that having an endless supply of gold would be practically useless, since it would be so common, and thus, cost less.

4. There once was a ruler who brought a nation's unemployment rate to nearly 0%. He and his political party provided affordable vacations for workers, as well as affordable automobiles that are still in use today. While he was in power, huge technological advancements were made, even though the country was just coming out of the Great Depression. Would you say those were all good things? What if I told you that this man’s name was Adolf Hitler? Just because somebody’s a complete scumbag who despises people just because they have different beliefs than him doesn’t mean that there aren’t one or two things that he did that could be considered “good.” For instance, why are you people boycotting Tesla, but not boycotting Volkswagon? You know Hitler started that project, right?

5. A consentration camp was where Hitler put everyone whose religious beliefs he didn't like. Alligator Alcatraz (which, contrary to popular belief, is not infested by man-eating alligators) is for people who break laws (such as commiting r*pe) or commit civil violations (such as illegally crossing a border).
6. Please describe one of these attempts to "destroy the institutions of our Republic." Are you referring to the defunding of NPR?

Hitler was a huge scumbag who will definitely burn in hell, but he was also very good at military strategy. That's something every leader should be good at.

And he was under a judge's Deportation Hold Order, summarily deported without due process.

You specified "name one immigrant that has been deported unfairly." Garcia is the immediate example of "unfair" deportation. If that's unpalatable, would you prefer the immigrants who've followed the rules, shown up for their immigration hearings only to find their cases have been dismissed sans adjuducation, be subjected to arrest and ejection?
