Protection for who?

I guess it would be from forcible attacks, but our country is certainly not running like a well oiled machine. Corporations, and greed have gotten in the way. Protests should be regarding the injustice on corporate greed, among the failed justice in the court system, and pharmicutal harms, that list could go on, we have multiple branches of government lacking checks and balances. But we need a army to protect the United States from war. It does seem that mass chaos is upon America. I always believed make peace not war, but I guess tax payers keep paying someone to keep the protections we'll funded. I guess the army is there to protect us from our own worst enemy.

So I actually agree that you need to defend your country against insurrections and foreign invasions and stuff.

That's what armies are for. And even France almost never sends the army in to put down riots, by the way.

The fact Trump did it so quickly kind of makes him look really weak and pathetic as a leader. Not that he was exactly respected internationally anyway, btw (the whole world already thinks he's a deranged lunatic; sorry to burst your bubble, folks, but you do you). TMW the whole world is laughing their socks off at the Yanks, and the Yanks are too proud and closed-minded to notice... We're all laughing at you. Don't take my word for it. We still like you btw. I just don't think these LA riots are an "insurrection" that threatens the US as a country. This happens every week in France lol. Trump is kind of overreacting, no offence.

That was so uncalled for. The men and women fighting in Vietnam were trained to kill anyone and everyone. Those people never forgot what they were ordered to do. It enraged people at home. But they did what they were ordered to do. And it was still in return protecting the United States. They never deserved to be spit on and ridiculed on their return. They had no way in the matter.

I don't approve of spitting at vets, actually. That's tacky, for starters. And despite leaning towards pacifism, I actually hold a lot of respect for military personnel. Politics aside, they risk their lives going into situations most of us couldn't ever imagine and often face danger and trauma most of us will never hope to comprehend. I certainly could never do it, so I think they deserve credit just for that, whatever my views are on the wider politics.

That said, I draw the line at things like this:

Following orders is one thing. But there surely comes a point when even your orders should be questioned and your basic humanity should kick in and override that.
