My father served in both ww2 and Korea. He hid his ptsd pretty well (as most of that generation did) until his death at 80. Sorry if you inferred something I never intended.

No need to apologize, that's one thing I'm glad I got wrong.

I had just seen a similar mean right before this one,

so it was starting to affect me.

At least he got to live a long life, although with unimaginable suffering.

I had an uncle who served in Korea. He passed away from cancer when I was young. One of the nicest people ever, I mean super nice. His best friend died right next to him on the field, and he lost the hearing in his left ear after a bomb exploded near him.

He came back drinking, but didn't touch a drop as he worked and took care of his family during the week, but then locked himself in his room and got drunk listening to Mariachi Music on the weekend.

I used to think Mariachi Music was Puerto Rican when I was a child, because I'd hear that and Bolero blaring out of the bars when we passed by (we used to go there for a month in the summer). He owned a grocery store across the street from his house that also functioned as a bar and dominos & pool hall in a separate section on the side. Beautiful but depressing music for men to sob to.

Sorry I'm going on and on.

Sorry about your father.

I had an Uncle too in Korea, I googled his name and where he fought and this came up about him, (I editied his name from the post) He passed away back in 97' I always remember how he spoke of the Frozen Chosin .

(my uncle) was a Marine who fought in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War, a significant conflict that took place from November 27 to December 13, 1950. This battle is remembered for the extreme conditions and the bravery of the U.S. forces, including the Marines, as they faced overwhelming Chinese troops while executing a difficult withdrawal.

Anyone can search it via the words you posted here as well you're concerned about that.

Na, I am not really worried about it. It was more out of respect for him.

Sorry to hear he's gone.

They say my uncle didn't like talking about the war. That was too young when he passed away to remember much, and don't forget but I didn't know about him in Korea till much later.

This documentary called The Borinqueneers about the Puerto Rican 65th Infantry Regiment who fought in Korea, the first Puerto Rican one in the US army. My uncle is not in it, but it was a pretty interesting documentary. There's one guy in it who gives these really funny descriptions, and you almost forget that this is a real documentary. But it was good.

He volunteered at 17 for the Navy. Ended up on an LST at Okinawa, then a destroyer at Iwo Jima, where he mentioned once using a firehose to wash parts of his friends off the deck. Recalled to the Korean War he didn't see his baby daughter until she was 3.
