your compassion for the dead kid should outweigh your need to defend a killer

The loss of life is always tragic, no matter how much melanin is in the victim’s skin.

That said, FBI crime statistics have had black-on-black as the highest murder rates for many years. Nothing racist about it. That’s the facts.

The picture I posted represents Trayvon Martin. If you want to elevate a single child's murder to a national talking point and ignore larger trends, start with him.

Trayvon Martin died because he decided to set a trap and confront someone he claimed to be afraid of rather than try to get away. George Zimmerman was found Not Guilty for a reason: he was not guilty. Facts can be stubborn things.

So (and as someone who works with middle schoolers, this is a very important understanding) when a teen makes a bad decision (as I'm willing to admit Trayvon Martin did that night), should the consequences be FATAL?

I have teen sons myself: I do NOT consent for random members of the community to punish my children for their mistakes by shooting at them.

George Zimmerman was found not guilty. I do not believe that means the same thing as "innocent" or "virtuous". He made the choice to kill someone, with a fig leaf of law.
