Yes, but I think society has spun so far out of control, steering back to cordial decorum is too far. It started with reporters who strongly supported Al Gore were accusing George W. Bush of "stealing" the election and started to call him "Mr. Bush" rather than President Bush. At that time, that was the first time a President was addressed by reporters as just "Mr."

I remember when Dianne Feinstein got p!say with a MG for him saying “Ma’am” to her and wanting to be called “Senator” saying she had “worked so hard to get there” and didn’t even have the courtesy to refer to him as “Major General.”
