Wow. That has got to be the most superficial and ill-informed take on this situation with Ukraine that I've seen in a long while.

What does the US want?

1. Peace
2. Europe to pay more for Ukraine
3. No U.S. boots on the ground.

So, assuming all parties can get past Zelenskyy's utter inability to negotiate effectively (see here for the explanation on that: imgflip.com/i/9m5xyt) and peace can be had one way or the other, what is going down? The answers are, Europe is paying up and they're offering French and UK soldiers as peace keepers.
