Trees with heavy sap...like pine and fir....were literally exploding with excessive heat. Even the pine cones would launch off like Roman candles and explode. Not to mention the tree roots would smolder for days underground and flare up another tree on fire.

They don't explode because they're dry, they explode because of their sap. Same is known to happen to trees when they are struck by lightning.
