I am appalled by this!

This should be fought against by every taxpayer in America!

Who spends $25,000 on just 500 bible?

They don't cost that much.

They could have went to hotels and snagged em for free, courtesy of the Gideons.

Unknot those panties.

A bible in the reference section does not establish a state religion, nor does it impede anyone's right to practice any religion the choose.

It's not like they want to put gay porn books in schools - again.

This a non issue.

Really.

Can just one of you come up with something new?

Recycled rubbish.

The best-selling most influential book in the HIStory of the world can not be ignored.
No education is complete without it. Only the willfully ignorant are afraid to read it.

And the willfully ignorant people who read it refuse to acknowledge other belief systems.

Nonsense.

They readily acknowledge other religions.

They simply do not accept them as "the way".

So once again the government is trying to wipe out native American beliefs, in a state that educates a large population of native Americans. Assimilation started with religion and forced education, and we know how well that turned out for tribal people.

No it isn’t. Where do you get that?

History in the eyes of a tribal person. Children forced into Catholic boarding schools and replaced, killed and orphaned from their parents. All the history known to tribal people to become white, and have the freedom of religious ceremonies, and practices stripped away because it didn't make since to a Catholic, or bible thumper.

Disgusting isn't it? I think it is. Rich white men have NEVER changed. Can't imagine they ever will ... but ... there seems to be more people fighting back.

The Oklahoma State Department of Education has purchased more than 500 Bibles to place in Advanced Placement government classrooms, at a cost of $25,000. There are also bids to buy more Bibles, as well as copies of the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution. I will take every step possible to ensure Oklahoma students have the resources I believe they need to fully understand one of many religions out of American history. By acting now, I am forcing all Oklahomans on a path toward greater focus on unproven biblical academics by providing alternative facts about only the christian historical, cultural, and literary context for our students whether you like it or not. State Superintendent Ryan Walters said the Bibles are intended to serve as a 2,000 year old academic and literary resource. His aim is to place a Bible in every classroom in the state; The First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the freedom of religion through two clauses: Establishment Clause: Prohibits the government from establishing a religion Free Exercise Clause: Protects the right of citizens to practice their religion as they choose; WHY BOTHER BUYING COPIES OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS AND THE CONSTITUTION IF YOU'RE JUST GOING TO VIOLATE THEM?
