We are animals. Intelligent, evolved animals. but still animals. Just look at our behavior. We behave in quite the same manner as most animals. We kid ourselves that we're somehow superior (usually this is where morality as superiority comes into the discussion), yet we kill each other for no good reason, go to war for no good reason (the animals aren't quite evolved enough for that at scale, yet...), we mistreat each other in all kinds of horrible ways, and as animals do, we kill and eat other animals for sustenance when due to our intelligence and evolved state, we no longer need to; we just want to. We have far too much in common with them to legitimately think otherwise.
