Tyrus said this just the other day on "the five", 100% agree. No matter what room he walks into he is always Trump. He doesn't pander to the room like the other politicans. Love that he put that black reporter in her place with her shitty attitude at the NABJ.

Y'all are so weird trying to tell a woman that she's not Black enough because her mom is from India.

It's weird.

She did go to Howard University, a historically Black college. She joined Alpha Kappa Alpha, a sorority for Black women. She joined the Congressional Black Caucus when she was elected to the Senate. Her father is a Black man born in Jamaica.

And she's always identified strongly with her black heritage.

Like I said, it's weird y'all are trying to tell her she's not black enough.

"And she's always identified strongly with her black heritage."

Only when it's politically expedient. In California, she made her Indian heritage the focal point. Weird how that works.

"Like I said, it's weird y'all are trying to tell her she's not black enough."

It's weird y'all are making the color of her skin the focal point of her presidential run like it matters. But it's what you Democrats love doing. ALways about rac and gender, never about actual issues.

No, y'all keep bringing it up. These conversations are all started by y'all.

And it's weird. Are you going to ask to see her birth certificate next?

The whole "first black woman" is pushed by her and the Democrats. We're responding to that BS, not starting it. You can keep trying to gaslight us, but it ain't working. In California, she was an Indian, now she's black. That is her whole identity which SHE pushes, along with her party. No white person is ever making their race an issue and they certainly don't change their idnetity depending on where they campaign. You and your party are delusional, trying to gaslight the rest of us who actually know better. The only thing we're doing is bringing up her hypocrisy and her stupidity of trying to be someone she isn't.

Tell me, why is she pretending to be southern with a southern accent. Explain to me why she, and the rest of the party, feel the need to change their speech for votes.

Keep it up, cause it's making you and your party, especially Kamala, look pathetic.

Trump literally said "vote for the white guy." Whereas Harris asks people to vote for her based on her history as a prosecutor, Attorney General, Senator, and Vice President.

So, Trump is saying that you should vote based on skin color, and Harris is saying to vote based on performance history.

And it is possible to be an Indian woman AND a Black woman.

Oh don't worry, we'll vote based on her past. You don't have to worry about that.

And? What does all this have to do with the original post about Kamala Harris getting a southern accent when rallying in Georgia?

Muh dude. I am a Texan, and I can assure you she doesn't have a southern accent.

"Muh dude. I am a Texan, and I can assure you she doesn't have a southern accent."

I never said she did. She forced the accent when speaking to Georgians. C'mon guy, keep up. I know she doesn't have a southern accent and the meme I posted isn't claiming she does. It's mocking her seemingly need to try and create an accent to appease potential voters in the south.

And just so you know, Texas isn't really considered south, it's considered midwest. I also live in Texas and have been since '91. There is a difference in Texan accents and actual southern accents.

Oh, did you mean when she code-switches? Because that's not a fake accent. That's code-switching. It's different.

Maybe you're not aware of what code switching is? It's when you alter your language or accent to signal belonging to a particular group.

Let me give you an example out of my life. I was born and spent my childhood in central Illinois. So, I have a mid-western accent. But my mother moved us up to Minnesota. So, I have portions of the MN accent, and can choose to accentuate or minimize it when I want. Then when I got out of the Army, I moved to Texas (cause why not?). I've been here since 95.

So, I have at my disposal, 3 different accents and language choices. I vary them based on when, to whom, and where I am speaking. When I have to do a presentation at the office? I use the midwestern accent. No slang terms. But when it's me n the boys headed to the Hard 8 in Roanoak? Son, you best believe I am gonna get some brisket, potato salad, and I can't help but love their sweet potato fries.

But when I visit mom up in St Paul? Oh, gosh, no bbq for me. It's too spicy, doncha know? Also, I think they just put it in a cock pot with some Kraft sauce. But some hot dish and some pierogies? oh, yeah, yeah, for sure! I do could do with some of that, you know.

And if you're a transplant to Texas, and think that you don't code-switch? You are not paying attention to how you talk when you talk.

That is what VP Harris is doing. She's signaling her belonging to a specific group- Black women- by engaging with the language and accent of that group.

Because she's a black woman, it's not fake.

Also, Texas is not the midwest. Unless you live in North Dallas area. Then it kinda is.

It may happen unintentionally as well, as in my case. English was neither of my parents' first language, so I grew up in a household with two very different non-US accents. On top of that, we had lived in various neighborhoods in the Bronx of which a large chunk were foreign born. Nearly every kid I grew up with and went to school with had parents not born here. I spent most of my life (since 8yrs) in Italian neighborhoods (which eventually became more mixed over the years).

Even bits and pieces of accents I just happened to like have leaked into the way I speak, like a teacher from Boston that we had in high school. We used to beg him to say, "Paak thaa caa in thaa yaad." Anyways, apparently that layered into the way I spoke, and my "r"s weakened further than the norm here. One day, when I was living round Arthur Avenue (AKA Belmont), one day my friends born n raised there noticed that I pronounced Arthur, "Awwthuhh," so more extreme than I thought was normal for these parts. I basically had to reteach myself to pronounce "r"s more clearly again, rather necessary when you have the letter in your name but say it, "awwa," when spelling it out loud for someone.

Anyways, what happens in my case is that my accent shifts without me realizing it, depending on whom I'm talking to. And I don't mean just local, I've talked to say, Southerners, from my bank or credit card companies, and caught it shifting towards theirs. Then I have to concentrate to not sound like them, lest they think I'm mocking them or trying to appease them or that I'm just plain wonky.

I used to wonder what was wrong with me but then I heard Gary Oldman in an interview saying the same thing happens to him, that his accent unintentionally shifts in accordance to whom was talking to.

Not saying that's necessarily the case with Kamala, but as she was also raised in a mixed household and in neighborhoods where Indians in Jamaicans might have been rarer, that might explain it some. Of course, being a politician, that might be part of it as well, so who knows.

Yeah, the unconscious adoption of accents around you is also a thing for neuro-spicy people. I'm dyslexic and do the same thing. I have to deliberately not do it too.
