That's why Juneteenth is especially important. It happened when the US Army was present in Texas to enforce it.

No idea what your on about. Lincoln had authority over the south. It was the south who declared they had authority to be independent and betray our constitution for slavery.

All for a rebellion that got outlasted by the annoying orange.

It's actually historically accurate. The emancipation proclamation only freed slaves in the Confederate states. It remained in place for the loyal border states and areas where the Union had re-established control.

In the modern era, it's taught that it was a broad national thing, but it wasn't.

Ooooh…right… mea culpa. …a little …

but doesn’t change the fact op is also wrong in the fact the south was basically just in a state of rebellion and they had no means to actually succeed legitimately….much less in the name of slavery. Lincoln and Congress had the right to outlaw it. (even if it should have been everywhere.)

Lincoln on winning the Civil War | image tagged in lincoln on winning the civil war | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Lincoln wasn't an idiot. He passed the bar without going to law school.
He knew exactly what he was doing and there was no way of enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation, but hey, should any slaves declare themselves free and managed to get the hell out of there without getting themselves killed, then they were free to join the Union Army out of gratitude for his Royal Messiah-ness.
But therwise, basically all it was was a big flip off to the eye of the South.

Sure, technically, the south couldn't secede and Lincoln was still the President, but the de facto state is he; (and Congress) could not enforce it. They didn't control the southern states.

Okay that’s genuinely going over my head care to explain?

But yeah the south succeeded over slavery as it’s mentioned 9 times. And the constitution does not allow for succession.

Read the Proclamation. He spends more time listing the places exempt from the Emancipation than those where it would be enacted, let alone the Union slave states. It's about retribution for rebellion against the empire, not justice. There was no good side to that war.

Okay look I’m not under some illusion that the union was the best shit since sliced bread, Lincoln was the savior of black people, or weren’t racist…

But no.
Absolutely not.
The confederacy were 1000 percent the bad guys in the civil war.

They declared, not just to the government they rebelled against, to the entire world they had a god given right to own black people and it was better for them that way.

Except the North wasn't always slave free. And segregation was very much a thing there as well.

And not just in the US, but even Canada, or segregation finally ended for Nova Scotia schools in 1983. Yes, 1983.

Segregation, slavery, they weren't exclusive to the South. It was a worldwide phenomenon, still is.
And while not to justify slavery, the fact is the Confederacy was fighting for state's rights.

Never said the north were saints in racial equality…

Yeah they fought for states rights…
To slavery. Well actually it was more over expansion of slavery but regardless…

What they were fighting for was Federal funding.

They were concerns that the expansion of slavery into new territories would get slave holding States more votes in Congress, and more votes means more influence and more allocation of funds.

The North wanted to curtail the spread of slavery in said territory, not out of morality, but to keep things at least balanced between both regions in terms of government control.
Remember, they did benefit from slavery. Processing, manufacture, export - these required raw goods, much came from the South, and produced by the toil of slaves.

It's not an accident that moves to make slave illegal occurred AFTER the Civil War and during a time that the Union was trying to break the economic back of the South.

Again I’m not saying the north were saints.

But the confederacy didn’t even pretend it was for economic means.

"our new government" was founded on slavery, "its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests upon the great truth, that the [N]egro is not equal to the white man; that slavery - submission to the superior race - is his natural and normal condition.” Savannah, Stephens March 21, 1861

Yes."

According to whom? Who's Savannah? Is Lincoln one of his fellow traitors?

Slaves weren't cheap. They were an expensive investment. They weren't pets. They were used for intensive agriculture, cash crops.

The vice president of the confederacy…
