Actually the rules did not apply. It was conducted in Trump-hating territory and had a deliberately Dem Party stacked jury and was conducted by a known Trump-hating judge whom essentially TOLD the jurors how to make their determination in favor of the Dem Party. Pretty much every violation of the INTENT of the Rule of Law was performed before the entire nation.

Campaign fraud did happen, but the cult believes that prosecuting the cult leader on testimony from his former fixer and a former sex pursuit is a bad look for America, just because he's the leading political candidate from the opposition party.

Conclusion: Should running for president from the opposition party make you exempt from any prosecution -because it's a bad image-? (rhetorical)
