You have to understand, you're dealing with quite a lot of people who pay VAT in their countries, so when you talking about sales tax, they're thinking a third of what they pay at the register, not 6 or 8%, hence the confusion and justification.

and howabout this... my state spent 11 billion over 15 years on building a train track across 1/3 of the state and they've only built maybe 300 metres of track.. So why should I (for example) contribute?

So mine and my entire families taxes for life can add up to 1/2000th of an inch of track? or should I give it to a state and federal government that can hand out 30x that 11 billion to other nations on a quarterly basis?

No there are state taxes that fund state programs, intitiatives and basic functions like fire departments, roads, police.

Fed programs help fund even more vital infrastructure like air traffic control towers… and help poor red states that pay less into the program with assistance to help feed people, social security and help handle national crisis like our medical stockpiles along with medicinal research that pharmaceutical companies CLAIM they do but actually don’t.

Paying the sales tax doesn’t entitle you to social security and with the cap of taxable income being 100k annually if he’s a business owner as he claims he has a hard limit to how much he has to pay to get the same benefits I will when I retire.

Americans pay HALF for gas than the rest of the world does thanks to subsidies. Not sure, but they actually might be selling the stuff at less than it costs to produce.

Actually that’s not entirely true while gas here is subsidized most of our gas comes from foreign oils so they can charge more.
Now American gas companies that export do get subsidies and export so they can charge more.

Basically it’s a mess so gas companies maximize profit while complaining about costs.

We pay market prices for it, and transport is heavily subsidized. And it still has to be processed once it gets here. That's heavily subsidized too. The oil itself is free when it's squeezed out of the ground. It's getting it out and everything that comes after that costs money.

You really think it's cheaper to buy chips shipped across from the other side of the planet rather than to buy them made domestically? The shipping costs alone SHOULD balloon prices astronomically.

Well that’s my point the system is screwed in such a way that the shipping costs inflate prices while they take subsidies for “costs of staying in business.” So they can post record profits.

It’s a well crafted scam but nothing new pharmaceutical companies pull the same stunt by offloading research costs on the government.
