Whaaaaaaaa, no more Elvis? π (and it's nice to be told I'm right, so thanks for that vBackman! π)
The left is an interesting bunch. Fairly despicable on the whole. Yes, no moral or fiscal responsibility. That's on display routinely.
I've given up trying to figure them out beyond some fundamental things that I don't like. For example, they think they're well meaning, but their "solutions" to problems like homelessness and hunger do nothing to actually solve the problem. They treat the symptoms and then sleep well at night, in the false belief that they've done some good. For some reason, they think govt is the solution to problems, while correct thinking folks know that govt is usually the cause of our problems.
I just posted a reply to a Whistlelock post that put on full display the belief that nothing gets done without govt. What reality are people living in when they want (well, need) the govt to take care of them and solve their problems?
I grew up in the midwest, and we just didn't ever think that way. The thought of taking a govt handout was/is repugnant to good midwestern stock. I'm with you, it's impossible to figure out that type of thinking. So I don't bother any more. I think the best approach is to ask them open ended questions, and then let them talk their way into putting their stupid ideas on display.
I just had to ask ParadiseLost why he wants to have sexual orientation and gender identity discussed in class with kids in kindergarten thru 3rd grade. Think about that for a minute... what kind of sick person wants to do that to kids? Libs can do whatever dumbass things they want because it's a free country. But once they start messing with kids, even the live and let live types like me are going to call them on it.
