The Chancellor candidates were nominated by the German President.
The German Parliament votes, without debate, on which nominee to install.
The nominee that is a member of the party that has the most representative seats and party sympathizers will always win, obviously.
The US utilizes a similar process in the Senate confirmation of Presidential nominees, except they debate endlessly and confirm or deny them one at a time. The people have no say.
US Supreme Court Justices are appointed by the President and approved by the Senate...but I reckon one could argue they were "elected" by congress.
What one cannot argue with is Hillary being a dummy.
P.S.
Later Hitler declared himself the President of Germany and combined the two offices making himself Supreme Leader.
