Your error is in what the plurality referenced, Reagan's late 70s campaigns (omitting quit campaign in late 60's)and the Donald's 2016 campaign.

After losing the nomination in the 1976 race, Reagan announced his candidacy again in 79, campaigned and won the republican nomination in July 80.
