You can fight like hell and fight the good fight by simply participating in the debate, voting, lobbying your representatives or becoming civically active, attending city council meetings and school board meetings and any number of things. More wins than you would like.

Any citizen can lobby their councilmen by simply meeting with them to discuss concerns or issues. Doesn’t necessarily require signing into the visitors log book if it doesn’t occur at city hall. Least not where I live.
